I'm about to graduate in May and plan on taking a year off before going to grad school. Like most of my friends, they can't get jobs with their undergraduate degrees and are seeking a masters or in law / med school. If I could go back in time I would say fuck college, apprentice under someone for a trade like welding or carpentry, then eventually start my own business. However, I don't regret going any of it. In Pennsylvania convicted felons can get certain grants and such, all part of "rehabilitating" and being "productive members of society". This was true here last time I looked, which was about seven or so years ago. I've heard through the grapevine that certain schools won't take felons (mostly private universities, not community colleges), but I'm not sure if there's any truth to this. And the more I think about it, I know a lot of felons that are going to school, and I'm pretty sure they're all riding on grants and financial aid of some sort. To be honest with you, the hard part of having felony convictions isn't going to be the education part, it's going to be the actual employment phase, employers are not likely to hire felons over people with clean records. I've had the same job for the last eight years, and thankfully they were willing to take a chance with me and give me a shot, even though I had to work my way up from the bottom. But before that, I probably had two dozen interviews that didn't pan out due to my record. During the first couple years of college you can gun heavy on juniors and seniors in high school. They're like warm Play-Doh. So I suppose for a year or two after you graduate you could apply the same logic to college bitches, as well as the slightly older types who only wanna talk to a dude with a degree and a job. (kind of drunk now i got an actual friday tonight cause school is closed monday for milk day) -I'm workin on my multimedia degree, next term i start the video production and editing courses (the real shit) i gotta get some intro courses outta the way first. -for the other old timers who havent been in a classroom since the early-mid nineties like I its not so bad just study. i guess being older your brain can learn shit faster and easier than when your younger. -yes fasfa denies you if you were ever convicted of possession or selling drugs. a good friend of mine just got out of prison and just started this term as well, he gets the same amount of monies as i do. i get a pell grant and stafford loans but there is some sort of program for felons that is basically equal, just shop around. i will say of all my classes math is the most exciting for me even though i thought i would hate it the most (even regretted signing up for it this term) . i have always sucked at it but im getting it now for once. -just do it! 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
