Just watched it and I'd have to say, except for a few funny parts it was boring..and yes there are many douchebags here, but at least were not over run with rednecks and Strip malls..Theres alot of stuck up little hipsters but theyre all pretty weak and most of them will all be on to the next thing soon anyway..Speaking of people killing themselves here, did that guy jump off the bridge on Friday.I heard he held up traffic on the bridge so he better not have bitched out!!!

I just find it a little weird to single out Portland to display this self important, snobby, holier than thou liberal nazi trendy wanna be so different just like every body else attitude that is going on with a whole generation of twenty somethings.I think Mommy and Daddy probably shoulda slapped the shit outta some of these people a little more instead of driving them to soccer practice and telling them how great they were everyday:rolleyes:

Every generation has these kinds of people, they are called douche bags.

I live here and my friend and I were talking about this show. I mentioned that I thought it was funny. Guy says, "You spend your whole day avoiding these fucktards. Why would you willingly sit down and watch them after you've spent so much time trying to ignore them?"

I have to acknowledge his reason.

im glad most of you dont live here

see....now...it's this kind of attitude i just don't get.

ever since my trip out last september i've been toying around

with the idea of moving. but. and i can even recall one or two

displaced locals specifically stating they hated outta towners.

and like, "shit man, don't move here and bring all that east coast

bullshit to our city blah blah blah." the bitch who said this was the homies

gf whos just another recently moved out to portland hipster the beasty east.

can a NON-GAY please explain this attitude to me. cause 90% of the people

i met out there were the nicest motherfuckers i ever met. and more than half

weren't even from there. i met a single legit local and dude was cool as shit.

but some dumb bitch not even "from" there as well as a few other isolated

nutcases talk all this "don't move out here, your're ruining things" bullshit.

damn. i hope you put that chick in her place then.

yeah Portland people are friendly for the most part.

The graffiti here is so weak right now though. The out of towners that stop through pretty much show up all the locals.

Our city saw an insane rise in graff a few years ago but it's really slowed down.

And the buff has been getting way worse over the past few years.

The show is a parody of a minority of people who live here. Unfortunately those people are the ones who get noticed because they're also the ones who want to get noticed i.e. they make sure you see them, hear them, pay attention to them. Every city has these kinds of people but for some reason Portland has become known for them. My own personal point of view is that Portland has so many graphic designers it's almost impossible to spit and not hit ones shoes. I don't think there are any more mustached/fixed gear/throw-back kids here than some place like San Francisco. The bike culture is massive, here, and there are definitely some over-the-top cyclists like the one portrayed... but for the most part they keep to themselves.

I moved here from San Francisco (via DC) almost 17 years ago and, to me, it's only become a better place to live. Sure, there's a lot more traffic and the influx of people moving here is overwhelming at times but the overall feel of the city is a good one. 90% of the folks are super nice and the city is small enough to easily get around.

Remember, the show is a joke on a minority of the population here. And the rain... yeah, it definitely rains here a shitload. Seriously, a lot.

The writing scene in Portland is small. I mean, shit gets done but it's not like San Francisco or even Seattle. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, because I don't contribute to the scene in any way... any more. Too old and too much to lose to risk it.

If you like riding a bike, drinking beer, eating good food and being entertained by your surroundings... Portland is pretty good at that. But the folks being made fun of in Portlandia do exist here, and are never going away. I mean, the "Alternative" radio station still plays Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam at least once an hour, if not more. That grunge shit is never going to die. I think there are more tattoo shops and strip clubs than there are churches. Which means there are a lot of strippers and people with sleeves. Seriously, though, it rains a lot.
