Was that Joan of Arc legal? I know the Gandhi one is on a busy street corner, so that's definitely legal. If the Joan of Arc wall is illegal then I can respect what they did there. If it's legal, than I'm calling bullshit on it. They didn't have to go over what was there, and they definitely didn't have to buff above them. There are plenty of walls they could approach for legal space, that need it more than that wall did.

 

And they aren't really preserving graffiti history by going over solid work.

I think it would be OK if they did this history shit without generating hype by using subway art classics.

I've got no hate for artists trying to "beautify" communities at all, in fact I think it's good.

 

The way they're doing it though is kinda like when some company uses a non writer to design a graffiti influenced graphic.

It gets the people who don't know a little stoked like young toys or something but alienates 99% of the people in the know.

Especially when they're associated with dissing solid graffiti by solid writers like that.
