Noo, I'm probably paranoid. I hope.

 

 

My buddy had a link to a study that he wanted to send me. Something to do with the number of muslim people in a country has a direct correlation to how outrageous their demands are, such as getting rid of free speech.

 

I insisted that he send it to me, and he did. But today, I log onto hotmail and they're saying my account has been blocked because someone got access to it. And they ask for my number so they can send me a verification text.

 

Not being in the right state of mind, and seeing that the page does look official, I give them the phone number to my pay as you go under a false name. It's been an hour and no verification code has been sent.

 

Has anyone ever gotten this?

The GF had her hotmail hacked a couple months back. She got a email from a long time friend who she had not been in touch for a while that said "do not open any emails from me", and so she opened up a email. Next morning she finds that her hotmail spammed everyone in her contacts with Viagra adds. Good thing she had all sorts of professional contacts backed up in her account. I am sure that various city planners etc really appreciated it.

 

I have had gmail ask for my number under the guise of "if you loose control of your account" or some such thing.

 

Neither of these things is really related to your inquiry but thought I would share.

Serious answer: it happens when someone else has been trying to log into your account. the "send your number" is to get a one use verification code to re-sign-in and change the password. it has to be the same number as the one you registered with for in case this happens. if you didn't fill it in then it's not going to send you anything. it's automated. nothing to worry about. but if you haven't gotten anything I assume it's because you have a different number/didn't fill it in for your hotmail account. get a new account because you won't get back into that one. or try this

just make a new email, use it for the reset password thing this does, and fill in as much info from your account as possible. it's things like names of folders in your account, contact names . it will take around a day to get back to you, it cross references what you answer and searches through the files names in your account for matches and uses your ip address to validate that you've signed into your account on that computer (so that I couldn't just fill your shit in and get your passwords)
