Mercer
AHN News Staff Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - A day after authorities arrested Palestinian Nadim Injaz, who entered the Turkish embassy in Tel Aviv and took two hostages, an Israeli court on Wednesday approved his detention. Now, police will be able to keep him in jail for at least a week to conduct further interrogations. Injaz’s lawyer said that his client was an ex-Israeli informer seeking political asylum in Turkey. Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu claimed that the Palestinian hijacker entered the embassy compound with a knife, a toy gun and a can of petrol. He was rushed to hospital immediately after his arrest since he injured one of his legs during an ambush with security officials. "During the 1990s and the early part of this decade, he stopped Palestinian attacks, saving many lives both of soldiers and Israeli citizens," his lawyer Avital Horev said. He added that the Palestinian Authority signed a death warrant against him for collaborating with Israel. Horev said that Israeli security agency’s Shin Bet’s refusal to give him protection provoked Injaz to take such an action. However, Bet’s spokesman denied Injaz’s claims and said he had never worked with the agency. Later, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu confirmed that all of their staff was safe after the Israeli authorities controlled the situation at the embassy. However, the ministry demanded more security at Turkish embassy in Israel. Davutoglu also announced an investigation into the matter, while Israeli police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld said that the foreign ministries of the two nations were dealing the matter on diplomatic level. Injaz, a resident of the West Bank town of Ramallah, is allegedly suffering from mental illness. Four years ago, he demanded asylum when he stormed the British embassy in Tel Aviv. christo-f
Nobody believes a "crazy" person, no matter what they say. I have no idea how the theme of a naked dude getting slotted worked its way in the picture at the start of the whole drama....
Mercer
I think there was an incident on Tuesday involving a dude who stripped down naked and got shot dead outside the embassy. Wednesday was the dude pictured above allegedly attempting to take hostages who was shot in the leg somehow on the second floor. Neither the Israeli gov. nor the Turks have made detailed statements about the incident thus adding to the confusion.
