If you die and your brain still works you come back as a zombie. If you die from a bullet to the head, you don't come back. if zombies eat everything including brains you don't come back. just a head alone will stay alive as a zombie head and chomp at whatever is within its 1 inch reach with its tongue and lips, like the one that got beheaded at the quarry and Daryl said you gotta hit the brain dummies, or something like that. The characters on the show still think it's some sort of infection that will turn you, but it's just everyone who dies. no need to be bitten or scratched or anything. SPOILER*** from the last episode it's obvious. Kid had neck broken, came back as a zombie, shane had his gut stabbed, came back as a zombie. neither came into contact with the walkers between dying and getting up and being a zombie. chick in the military research facility video, died and her brain started right back up again. It is weird how some people like Shane come back instantly with the need to eat flesh but the sister from last season took a lot longer, hours even, before she slowly, almost like she awoke from a coma and started trying to get up and grab at her still alive sister. publicenemyno.3 Posted March 13, 2012 Share Posted March 13, 2012 maybe the zombies run out of steam after awhile or their brain becomes so decomposed that the basic motor functions that keep them moving after death cease to function. the time between death and becoming a zombie might have to do with how fast their body metabolizes whatever causes them to become a zombie. then again even basic metabolic functions would normally cease after death, so who knows. at this point i'm just hoping they don't fuck the show up any further and there's some goddamn zombie carnage. Everybody has been exposed (blood spatter, zombie drool etc) at this point, but it's not virulent enough to overpower the immune system without direct infection IE a bite. Most of the dead people they have come across died a while ago and have been dead long enough to be desiccated. So that would lead us to believe that they where killed/killed themselves in the chaos directly following the outbreak, before "zombie-itis" had been so wide spread. At some point the walkers are gonna fall apart from decomposition, making it just a waiting game for it to blow-over. If you watched the webisodes or payed attention to the first episode or can remember that far back it can't be because of starvation yet, because that chick who got bit at the very beginning and then died, and started getting decomposing and split in half but kept on going (the first walker rick got to up close and returned to to kill).
