earl broclo ESQ
CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Harvey Pekar's life was not an open book. It was an open comic book. Pekar chronicled his life and times in the acclaimed autobiographical comic book series, "American Splendor," portraying himself as a rumpled, depressed, obsessive-compulsive "flunky file clerk" engaged in a constant battle with loneliness and anxiety. Pekar, 70, was found dead shortly before 1 a.m. Monday by his wife, Joyce Brabner, in their Cleveland Heights home, said Powell Caesar, spokesman for Cuyahoga County Coroner Frank Miller. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. Read more here: http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/07/cleveland_comic-book_legend_ha.html I'm sure some of you have seen "American Splendor." I've had so many friends tell me I'm just like Harvey Pekar. So it's a sad day to find out he passed away. R.I.P you grumpy son of a bitch. {OneSevenNine.com}
The American Splendor soundtrack is AMAZING! I would have LOVED to browse his record collection. I heard this news on NPR today and it made the rest of my day super sad. Tonight we will watch American Splendor in tribute to this amazing man. I will also start the day at the warehouse to this CD. person
actually he couldn't draw his ass off, that's why he always wrote the stories and had other artists draw them.
earl broclo ESQ
Yinz --watch American Splendor. Robert Crumb was his friend and he's the one who drew all his stories in the beginning. But he's worked with some amazing artists since those days as well. If anyone in here is a comic book artist and wants some Harvey Pekar type writings --HIT ME UP.
