The teacher has been fired and charges could be filed. The boy's mom filed a police report with the Harris County Sheriff's Office, who is actively investigating the beating. For almost one minute, a teacher was caught on a cell phone camera terrorizing a student. She beat, kicked and slapped the boy as classmates cheered and laughed. "The video is absolutely horrifying," said Sue Davis, spokesperson for Jamie's House Charter School. Davis said the teacher caught on camera is 40 year old Sherri Davis, not related to the school's spokesperson. The teacher was placed on leave after the child's mother notified school administrators a few days back. School officials had not seen the video until Monday night. "Obviously when we saw the video there was no doubt that the teacher would be terminated," said the school's spokesperson. The student seen on camera getting hit is 13 years old. The boy's mother, Alesah Johnson said her son suffered a black eye and several bruises. "It's unreal that a teacher would do that to a student," said the spokesperson. "That's just not something we are going to tolerate." Jamie's house is a charter school for students for disciplinary problems. The spokesperson said no matter what the teen may have done to provoke the teacher, he didn't deserve to get hit. "I don't think she needs to be teaching she needs an attitude adjustment," said a neighbor who lives next to the school. School administrators are also investigating if other teachers were involved since the boy claims others stood by as the teacher beat him. ------------------------ The following letter was sent home to parents: Dear Parents and/or Guardians: There has recently been an allegation of a teacher physically assaulting a child at our school. The incident involved a science teacher and an 8th grade student. It occurred on or about April 29. No other children were involved. Our school takes all such incidents very seriously and immediate action was taken to safeguard our students. When the allegation was first brought to the school's attention, the accused teacher was immediately removed from the class room and assigned administrative duties. After a thorough investigation, the teacher involved in the incident has been terminated by the school. Further, if any teacher is found to have witnessed the incident and failed to take appropriate action to safeguard the student, disciplinary action against that teacher will be taken. Educators are entrusted by parents with their children every day and we have a responsibility to see that they are not only taught but treated with respect. This incident violates every principle by which we operate Jamie's House Charter School and we will continue to work hard to earn your confidence in us.
