I think the rule is that a player is offside if he is between the last two players of the opposing team. In 99% of the cases the last player on the opposing team is the goalie. In this case the player was between the keeper and a defender on the goal line. It is kind of a backwards situation.

I even liked the UR-FR game, both teams played well.

Uruguay kept their cool and realized they had to defend even though they seemed to get past FR defence pretty well. France wasn't as clever offensively, so the result was 0-0. It was pretty cool UR managed to keep that zero.

 

You shouldn't expect much from these early games anyway
