MAR
East coast water is warm, I don't know how you west coasters do it.
+plus+
my best friend is in houston... she says the beach there is nasty. not surprised from the nation's #1 polluter. yea im from corpus and we always dread going to galveston because the surf blows and the water is crap brown. South Padre has super clear water and has waves like california just less consistent.
acer910
yea fuck west coast beaches. i used to live up in washington state on whidbey island and the beach was nothing but rocks and cold ass water that gives you hypothermia. and regarding living with the sun, i agree completely. when i was up in washington id go spend weeks at a time camping in the mountains and id be up as soon as the sun was up and in bed as soon as it set. when i got back to the house id be waking up at 2pm and going to bed at no sooner then 1am, couldnt control it. its the weirdest thing
Tavaruawon
East coast water is warm, I don't know how you west coasters do it. Wetsuits. I have several of varying thicknesses for different conditions. The standard setup for avoiding hypothermia is a 4/3 fullsuit with boots. Ocassionally rocking gloves and a hood when it's windy. The further north you go the thicker the rubber. 5/4's for Humboldt and the Pacific NW. Hotline is the best. But I still get some mind-numbing headaches on that first duck dive some cold winter mornings.

Tavaruawon
Actually yeah. I feel like a seal out in the water sometimes the way the neoprene feels and sheds water. It's not always fun to feel like a seal when you're in Northern California though... surfing within sight of the Farallon Islands. And in the heart of the 'red triangle' aka white shark heaven. I stay plenny warm. And yes I piss in my wetsuit - every time. One thing about hoods though, it really fucks with your equilibrium. Balance tends to be all off because water gets trapped in near your ears. Not good.
Tavaruawon
Patrick's Point, about 20 miles north of Eureka, CA. (Humboldt) Great place to camp, surf and fish. There are a couple of heavy reef break lefts and a left hand point break. Multiple beach breaks all within walking distance up the beach. Any fliks I post in this thread will be my own personal stash unless otherwise noted. Mine. Another Humboldt county classic - Shelter Cove. 2nd Reef starting to crank. Widows Peak - My boy paddled out shortly after this series of fliks. I stayed on shore to call for help because I seriously thought he was going to fucking die. Pictures don't even do this shit much justice. The shorebreak was intense and like double overhead at the minimum! All mines. Shelter Cove is a beautiful place. Not very known. You can do an 18 mile roundtrip hike up the coast to get to the point in the backround. We call it Big Flat, and it's one of the best waves on the North Coast, but very isolated and hard to get to. Backpack in type shit.
allfreetime
My home town Newport RI along with Middletown RI has teh dope beaches. House I lived in for a long while is in this photo somewhere. * Edit 3 houses I've lived in are in that photo. Sadly I never cared for the beach. Tavaruawon
I tend to like that rugged wilderness vibe of Nor Cal. But I do frequent the south. Here's some decent shots I got during sunset. Newport @ the Wedge. A great place to scope bettys, and to chill out watching people get ragdolled in the shorepound. People break bones here on the daily in big south swells. Tavaruawon
Picked up this board from my shaper and slid on over to 4 mile. Any of you 831 heads know where this is. Cool spot, it's a nudie beach but you see more balls than tits. Anything goes at this place. Rager bonfires and renegade DJ's with Honda generators. The break is off of that point. Not doing much that day though. More later.
allfreetime
Also there is a $45 a la carte steak restaurant and an ex-crack spot in that photo. * and one of the country's most expensive prep schools (Saint George's). This beach was also site to one of the country's first amusement parks serving the Vanderbuilts and the like first generation tycoons of the states:

acer910
damn. these pics make me wish i surfed, ive honestly never tried because when i was about 10 i dove into a pool and came up under a concrete table thing and thought i was upsidown so i swam the other way, hit the bottom, swam the other way and hit the side. so i flipped the fuck out and nobody could see me and i swallowed ALOT of water. so ive always been semi afraid of drowning. but this summer im going to go for it and try surfing for once. edit: not the pic above me. wtf haha

Tavaruawon
Acer... after reading your harrowing tale I must say; you can open your eyes underwater you know. Even in salt water. Doesn't hurt that much breh.
acer910
no i know, i open them all the time haha its just the pool wasnt painted so the side, bottom and bottom of concrete table all looked the same..
SwampFightOner
I'm pretty sure I see Swamp flopping around out in the shorebreak rocking water wings and a seahorse floatie. I've only been to Newport maybe once in my whole life, and I think the only swimming I did was in a Marriot pool I snuck into. Even in a state as small as RI I don't travel very far
acer910
saw a dude get tackled by a great dane. shit was intense. also a undercover suv on the beach. why the fuck are they going to aste the effort buying a undercover when the only vehicles allowed on the beach are the fire truck things and cops. i mean, i highly doubt some niggas bout to roll up on the beach in a white escalade. of course its the police...
