!@#$%
getting there can be incredibly expensive i am good at finding deals. once you are there, you can do it cheaply BUT it is not like europe, where a backpacker type is understood. you still represent great relative wealth, and many people will expect to be rewarded for helping you break the rules (like taking a photo where you aren't supposed to in a historic site) they also won't expect to give you a deal, and you often have to bargain if you're good at that sort of thing and/or have experience in a 3rd world country, where people are looking to make money off of you and constantly asking, you will be fine it's a very safe place and very friendly i have done a lot of solo travel, and this is one place i would not recommend it while it is completely possible, there is some culture shock and it helps to have a friend. locals are very curious and extremely inquisitive there is no sense of personal privacy in many respects and if you are a western woman and not dressed modestly, you shouldn't be surprised if you receive unwanted physical contact all in all, it was a fantastic vacation with few bumps

!@#$%
thx again! the Sphinx's name in Arabic roughly translates to "Father of Terror" i love that for some reason. to me, it lived up to it's reputation it is in the middle of a regular ass Giza neighborhood, which is a little strange the guide told us Napolean's army rolled through Egypt and took target practice at it's face and that's why the nose is so extensively damaged it is carved from one piece of limestone.
