IOU
It's still a great song. I used to get all kinds of acid jazz promos when I worked at a record store in 1993. Beat Goes Public always had better comps than Acid Jazz, but Acid Jazz outsold BGP something like 10 to 1. Completely agreed on the Ninja Walk. Definitely a track that got inside you. As for Acid Jazz, that shit is great on it's own and was a way to make "real" jazz dance floor friendly, but don't ever say anything Miles Davis did is Acid Jazz. shai
As for Acid Jazz, that shit is great on it's own and was a way to make "real" jazz dance floor friendly, but don't ever say anything Miles Davis did is Acid Jazz. The only group I liked on Acid Jazz was Corduroy and a couple early Jamiroquai remixes. Besides that, it was too watered down for my taste. I think that's why it sold so well in the suburbs, white people just weren't ready for the heavy heavy funk back in 1993. I've been looking for some of those BGP comps I had back then but they're hard to find.

shai
Acid jazz was my starting point but I'm more of a jazz funk fan. Always There - Ronnie Laws I've always felt that this was the original acid jazz track....well, this and a couple others. I'll have to look through my stuff to see if anything pops up. I can tell you right off the bat that CTI/Kudu is a good label to check out...
