perhaps one of you can explain to me why buying a train ticket to anywhere is so goddamn expensive?

for instance: the cheapest ticket from philly to ny by train is like 45? some cost 100+

Riding some sleeper train across the country sounds AMAZING, but I can't even imagine how much it would cost.

I'm a few weeks away from a train trip myself. not quite as scenic as this one, or my last one, but I'm still looking forward to it. much more civilized than flying. nothing like sitting down to a full on breakfast in a dining car and watching the world whiz by outside. and this way I can ship a bunch of belongings with me for no extra cost. none of this $50 for a duffel bag bullshit the airlines are pulling these days.

Hah, Next time you take photos out of your window you need to close the curtains on everybody else's windows first.

It is kind of amazing how you see a fucking horrible and industrial side of america buried away by the tracks when less than a century ago every thriving town in America was built around the main train hubs.
