metronome
it was blatant cheating, and the fact that he is such an iconic footballer, he should have put his hands up and taken it like a sportsman. Naw, fuck that. It's like he already said, he knows he handled the ball and he's going to try and win the match anyway he can. This falls on the match ref/linesmen and FIFA in general for refusing to update the way the game is officiated
Reuben Kinkaid
People need to stop whining about it. Yes it was a handball, but it was the ref's job to call it, no way in hell Henry or any other player in the history of the game is going to stop with that much at stake, any one of the Irish players would have done the same. There's no way there was ever going to be a replay, this is hardly the first game that's ever ended in controversy. Yes, it's a shitty way to go out, but it's their own fault for not putting away the countless chances they had to put France out. You have to make every single chance count against France, even if it is the worst France team in decades. And like Roy Keane said, he would be much more concerned with how the ball got to Henry in the first place, and how the defenders and keeper let the ball get past them in the 6 yard box. As for FIFA, don't even get me started. Just a bunch of corrupt pseudo-policrooks who care nothing about the game and are only interested in generating revenue. Three of the most high-ranking officials are from Trinidad, Korea, and Tahiti. These are the people controlling the football world? They're just a bunch of clowns who keep changing the rules on a whim so as to make sure that the biggest teams qualify. Remember when they took away an automatic place for Oceania countries? Or how at the last minute they decide to seed the European playoffs? The more and more I analyse it, the more I become disillusioned with the professional game. Reuben Kinkaid
Oh and I too would love to see Australia drawn in England's group. It would give us the easiest group we've had in a while!
Spitfire15
Imagine if some bastard drops the ball in the endzone during the super bowl to win it and picks it back up for whatever reason the refs still called it good even if it was obvious. You would have riots in the streets, mobs would storm the field and kill someone.
Daddy Screw
if france wins the this world cup, it will forever be tainted by this minor detail.

Blood Feast Island Man
FIFA just might be the most corrupt professional sports organization. that would be the ioc. but yes there's a lot of corruption within fifa. off the top of my head one example I can think of is the issuing of tickets in the last world cup. delegates/representatives from countries that weren't even going to germany were allocated box tickets, which they immediately hawked. the ticket I got for england/portugal came from the courtesy package for the maltese fa. there were no maltese representatives at germany, all that shit got sold. another example: the dropping of the golden goal rule is directly due to avertising revunue, as advertisers wouldn't know exactly when commercials would be aired, unlike guaranteed slots after 45 minutes. also sep blatter complaining that england were "boring" was completely unprofessional, fuck that tosser to all the aussies, in the last world cup you beat 1 team, japan. any accomplished team would and will tare through you/nh. Blood Feast Island Man
if france wins the this world cup, it will forever be tainted by this minor detail. no it won't. unfair shit happens all the time in football. england beat germany 4-2 in 1966, but the 3rd goal didn't cross the line and the 4th should technically have been disallowed as there were fans on the pitch at the time. not that anybody in england cares. the original "hand of god" goal by maradona is a continuous bitching point in england but outside of england people tend to focus on the fact the second goal maradona scored in that game was probably the best world cup goal ever. italy losing the world cup finals on penalties was incredibly cruel but that's just how it is. in a comparatively low scoring game like football little things make a big difference. but at the end of the day results are what counts. viperface
I hope Spain will still play the same goofy style without Aragones. I'm always rooting for the team with least bullshit antics in their game.
Leland Palmer
I think I would actually support England over Australia. But I can see england scoring an own goal or something and beating themselves, then I'd have to endure the months of moaning and hand wringing on tv. The best thing that could happen is they get to the quarter finals and put in a good performance but get beaten.

LosingMyMind
leland you're scottish yes? I thought it was blasphemy for scots to support england in anything Born in England though so I only participate in southerner hating for a laugh these days. The main enemies are the months long media frenzy surrounding England when they participate in any sporting event (especially the world cup), and new world cunts who know nothing about football. England getting beaten by Australia would be like if you played some uncoordinated girl at something and she beat you. Actually having typed that out it doesn't sound all that bad... - Leland Palmer
LosingMyMind
Anything's better than supporting Scotland. At least it not too demanding, seeing as we never actually get to play in any competitions. - Mr L Palmer
