Friend of The Devil
JGB - And It Stoned Me (Van Morrison cover) http://youtu.be/z4qMgsMNp4k fuck yeah! i love JGB! possibly more than the dead even. never got to see em with jerry. i've seen "The JGB Band" with Melvin Seals and the singers and what not, but I don't get why they don't just call it "The Melvin Seals Band" would make more sense IMO. Here's my fav Van Morrison JGB cover... he fucks up the first verse and sings "From the dark end of the road" instead of "dark end of the street", but i still think it's sick and here's the original: Would love to see Van Morrison live, but tickets are usually like 200 bucks face for nosebleeds if i remember correctly. shai
Jerry Garcia Band performing Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London"!!!!! Song also was played by the Dead on 10-31-1985 I saw the Dead play this on Halloween 1991. I recall it being an okay ending to a great show. Good to see this thread staying somewhat active without me. I've been offline for the past two months doing other shit...I should be around more depending on how things shape up in the next couple weeks. Ceks41
Damn, never even realized this thread was on here! I know quite a bit of heads that were around to go to shows before Jerry passed called it quits after that, but is anyone going to be making it to any of the fall Furthur shows? I plan to go to the Manchester NH, Portland ME, and Amherst MA shows..
POINTFIVE
might be @ the Amherst one Darkstar Dec.4th too
Ceks41
Yea I plan to catch Dark Star in Portland the 10th and maybe Concord NH the 5th. What a great fall/early winter treat! & the Magic Trip movie posted above is definitely one to watch, especially if you've read The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test. Real cool to be able to see some of the video that was taken that they talk so much about in the book.
shai
As I mentioned earlier I wrote it all off in 1993 as far as going to shows. I'm sort of conflicted about the post-Jerry generation of fans continuing the tradition...some of them have their hearts in the right place, the rest of them seem like they're latching on to an ideal they don't fully understand (much less respect). At least the music is still there when I need it.
Ceks41
Yea I get where you're coming from with that. If I was around and went to as many shows as most of the heads and you had, I would probably feel the same considering it seems to have changed a bit once it hit the '90s and the true vibe of it all officially went with Jerry.. In the end I'm definitely in it for the music and the way it makes me feel, and I love to hear their music played by just about anyone that can execute it well. But I do feel I'm kind of reaching for something that will never actually be able to be touched on again, which is quite the bummer. Nonetheless I will still attend every Furthur show that I can.. abcs
got so much downloaded.65-72 so far. Best way I found was thru pirate bay. You enter "grateful dead soundboard shows".... they are organized by year. Click one and contained therein is what looks to be most of the shows they played in the order they played em. All .MP3 which makes me happy. You could drive yourself insane tryin to do the same off archive.

I guess that tip for archive.org I mentioned didn't work for you....my only gripe is having to title everything manually. Dark Star Orchestra is playing Hardly Strictly Bluegrass (free end of summer festival in SF) this year. Do I care? Should I care? I'm probably going but I don't have plans to check them out. abcs
ya shai. I got to the bottom of it. You can only download audience recordings per the request of the remaining members of the band. Which isnt always a bad thing. Ive found great Aud recordings. That Pirate Bay tip i put out there just makes it real easy. Prepackaged, arranged sequentially by date and soundboard recordings. Download entire years at a time. Something to shake a stick at if your into it like that. Im not into any of that not GD thats tryin to be like GD music. The only connection i have to the GD is the music. I listen to it all day every day. I just like the music. The stuff makes me happy. shai
That's where I'm at. I rarely hang out with punks anymore for the same reasons I got tired of going to shows. Make that one big reason- I don't have anything to prove.
Friend of The Devil
i'd checkout DSO... the "Bobby" look just like Bobby!!!! cept blonde maybe... but he's definitely got a similar face and all the moves!
shai
I don't really care about that, as long as they can play. Bela Fleck is playing, he's pretty good but there's going to be a zillion hippies there (there always is) so I don't know.
Friend of The Devil
i'd definitely go for bela fleck... victor wooten is one of the most impressive bass players alive. if it was just DSO i'd probably skip it. haven't seen them since the old guitar player started playing with Furthur. they weren't particularly great before that either. bela fleck i would not miss though. shai
I know, I've seen him before. I just found out that Woods and Bill Orcutt are on the bill as well so I'll definitely catch them.
POINTFIVE
goin to see DSO in December, idk if i should be excited or if i shouldnt get my hopes up, i've always heard mixed reviews
abcs
i was listening to 1995 shows and ukno. Im feeling like the band was fucked up for putting Jerry on display like that. This show: Three Rivers Stadium 1995-06-30 cooks bright hot. If you told me it was 89 i wouldnt think twice. The man was on point, eclipsed the rest of the band. Other 95 shows i been checking out bum me out bad. I wont even describe it because if ukno then ukno. I guess business is business but shouldn't his band-mates, several of whom were with him from the jump... shouldnt they have uh... Looked out? Its not like any of em needed the money. Maybe schedule a new years run. 4th of july festival. Halloween, and a few limited engagements. All of em well rehearsed. He didn't need to be remembered like that. Thats a worthwhile link. shai
The band didn't need the money but after 30 years I think they just didn't know what else to do, health notwithstanding. I read a book about that period and they knew Jerry wasn't doing well but it was his call. No one was gonna tell him shit, and it was his decision to check into rehab.
