acer910
uhhhhhhhh this is old news. i was never taught to read nor write cursive. and now everyone writes in cursive and i cant read it. fuck.
DGK404
My handwriting is decent, but I usually print everything in capitals. Same here after taking drafting, and being forced to master ames letter writing, I always write in caps in non formal situations.
BELTOLEUM
I remember bein in 3rd grade and everything had to be done in cursive or else you had to redo it in cursive...i fuckin hated that year

SystemFailure
Somethings need to just be preserved. I don't know it's a toss up. Necessary? No, not really. Is it a skill? Yes. I primarily write in cursive. Can't write fast enough while jotting notes if I don't.
acer910
regarding that issue^ ive made a mutated form of cursive where the letters actually look like letters (theres none of that lowercase s and r bullshit) and they all connect and i can write it way fast... SystemFailure
Yup, like wise. I don't follow strict conventional cursive. More of a hybrid between cursive and reg. I write paragraphs that look like one joint sentence hahaha. Thethemeinthisbookarecreatedbytheauthor'suseofliteraryelementssuchasalliterationandallegory. El Mamerro
My cursive is terrible yet I've still managed to be perfectly awesome without it. I also switched to all caps block lettering after learning drafting-style writing. I wonder if KOH is upset by this.
injury
i guess this might also be the death of the handstyle has been happening for a long time already i would say. and it's because fancy paint doesn't give you hands. all it gives you is "dope ill flair tagz brah!!111" i would also blame it on drip mops which are popular as fuck. they're fun but you don't learn a handstyle with krink ball points, you learn a handstyle with chisel and bullet tips, which look wack as shit if there's no style to them. example of rant: :yuck:

DISTRACT
A dying art. Taking calligraphy classes is on my to-do list. My economics high-school teacher had handwriting that would put most cursive fonts to shame. Was inspiring.

ShortFuse
I love typography and lettering, script and the flurishes. it should be taught but not as extensively. Good penmanship says alot about a person. Agreed. Back in olden times if you could write it meant you were educated. I believe that some form of penmanship will always be required in this world. Technically designers need to know how to write before they create more fonts etc. So it has to still be a language able to be written on paper before it can be used on a computer. Also with what pissdrunk said it does bring out a lot about a person. You can even study someones writing and tell if theyre stressed etc,
LUGR
I never strictly use cursive or script. I always use a combination of the two. Certain cursive letters I really dislike writing. They should tone down the focus and continue teaching it.

allfreetime
To me this isn't that bad. Isn't there a distinction between cursive and calligraphy? Cursive being a fast way of copy by hand (shorthand is even faster) and calligraphy being the art of writing by hand. Kids will still be taught writing. If a kid is creative and wants to expand on it then they can figure it out themselves.
KM4RT
I like the word penmanship. It's not all about being creative and the art of it all. A major part of it is discipline and actually taking the time to do it properly. Kids these days are being taught the shortcut to everything. Why learn to spell, when the computer has a spell check? Same thing here.
