Bojangles
Couldn't find my old thread about when i first found this bike, so here's a new one. Found this bike in someone's attic and they had no idea how long it had been there. Here's how it looked: Wasn't sure if it was even salvageable... BUT...After a few months of work... Things were looking up...;) I hand painted the chainguard and a few coats of Summer Squash and Sweet Tomato saved the day. I'm too poor and lazy to have the chrome dipped, so they got hit with silver...:o Here's where I'm at as of tonight! Shifter cleaned up nice! More to come soon! This should be rolling by next week.

Bojangles
was it too difficult to restore it to the way it looked when bought? Hell yeah! Just getting it to this point was hours and hours of sanding off decades of rust and filth. Plus, look up this bike online. There's little to no info, so matching the colors, etc. would've been ultra hard. Plus, re-dipping the chrome costs more than i wanted to spend for a fun project. penmanship
it reminds me of the moped we found at another friends' mothers house. same shitty condition but we just fixed the engine so it works but looks similar to how your bicycle did in the beginning. Yours is fixing up to look much more legit than ours.

shellshock
gold handle bar tape and white brake cable covers must be hard to find just noticed it has 2 back brakes. would be cool to have tall white walls on that thing
Bojangles
I've still got the dual back brakes, so no worries on that. Got the original derailer as well. This is kinda' cool. Someone just sent me this video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7370786973753962591

shellshock
embed an eightball in place of the old black shift knob, that would be 10 out of 10 hollow points
shai
It looks okay but... -That spray paint is going to come right off. I'm assuming you primered the frame first...something you can do to keep the paint in somewhat good condition is to find some spray Varathane and give it a couple of coats. It will also give the frame a gloss finish. -The pits in the chrome are going to eventually pop through the paint. It's a little late to do much and you said you didn't want to get it redipped, but if you're going to do another restore in the future you can rub aluminum foil over the high spots and use chrome polish to clean up the rest. -You should get a new freewheel to go with the new chain. Otherwise the new chain will not jibe with the old freewheel and will end up not seating right and popping when you pedal. It's a cool project, all the same. There's a few sites you can check out for restore tips on the web... http://www.oldroads.com (They sell a basic restore kit) http://www.cyclart.com/newindex.html

dowmagik
it needs a place to hook my janitor keys and hold my pbr. if you can make it fixed gear - extra points. extra extra points if u get a shitty tattoo of the bike u fix up. R@ndomH3ro
Nice but I was going to say the same stuff that Shai did, just painting over the chrome wont fix the problems. And the chain thing I have started to build and rebuild bikes and its quite fun. My brother in law fixes up old bmxs and cruisers and sells them for crazy prices and I think I might start doing the same.
