russell jones Posted January 6, 2010 Share Posted January 6, 2010 Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning last November's Presidential election: * Number of States won by: Obama: 19 McCain: 29 * Square miles of land won by: Obama: 580,000 McCain: 2,427,000 Population of counties won by: Obama: 127 million McCain: 143 million Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Obama: 13.2 McCain: 2.1 Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory McCain won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country. Obama territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in low income tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..." I don't have to read this several times to know that the conclusion is a long way from being proved by the evidence provided here. All that I can see here is that Obama won in urban areas and McCain won in rural areas. Concluding more than that based on this evidence is a stretch. As much as I disagree with the bank bailouts I can see the reasoning behind them doing it, if some of these huge banks had collapsed it would have had an impact on a global scale, however I would have prefered they collapsed and we oculd have started afresh. Then again I wouldn't have a job now had the banks been allowed to collapse. I did a complete overhaul for a building owned by advance realty (division of the communist party of USA) The building housed the party's US headquarters, they hated socialist more than most other groups. Probably had to do with the similarities and assumptions of people lumping them together. There was only one cool person there out of the dozens of party members working out of that building. I find that these criticisms tend to come from people who hold fast to their own unwavering -isms or left/right-wing identities and assume everybody else is the same way. Obama, like most people, is a moderate, plain and simple. As a politician he must find a balance between what he and his cabinet views as pragmatic and responsible, and public opinion.
