Been reading a lot lately.

Cold Mountain--Charles Frazier

Love in the Time of Cholera--Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Wild Sheep Chase--Haruki Murakami

are the most recent, didn't like Wild Sheep Chase much, the other two were solid.

bumping this thread because I used to get advice for good reads in here

Southern-Cross-the-Dog-WEB.jpg

weird I was really enjoying it and then I seemed to hit a speedbump on it.. not sure why but just lost the momentum. gotta force myself through this next bit and I'm sure all the storylines will click together.

I purchased a tablet, does anyone have a recommendation for a free google book or info on how to get good free books online?

Bomb the Suburbs is a blast from the past, remember how the title wiped off the original cause they were done by hand?

Good times.

some great fucking writing....intense and very unconventional.

you read it and just have to sit and think a minute to really digest.

http://www.amazon.com/The-Brief-Wondrous-Life-Oscar/dp/1594483299

"Oscar is a sweet but disastrously overweight ghetto nerd who—from the New Jersey home he shares with his old world mother and rebellious sister—dreams of becoming the Dominican J.R.R. Tolkien and, most of all, finding love. But Oscar may never get what he wants. Blame the fukú—a curse that has haunted Oscar’s family for generations, following them on their epic journey from Santo Domingo to the USA. Encapsulating Dominican-American history, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao opens our eyes to an astonishing vision of the contemporary American experience and explores the endless human capacity to persevere—and risk it all—in the name of love."

I'm like 3/4 through this..

Def pretty interesting so far..

ive watched a few documentaries on them.

last thing i watched was the CNN series on them and abuse in their organization.

they just bought a $4.75 million building in my city last year and its the first thing you see when you get off the freeway (huge scientology sign on the side of the building) and get into downtown.

Not really a book, but I am almost done reading all these that are released so far

I was burnt out on books because I read a lot and started reading comics. Main reason was because if I do not like a comic after one issue, I stop reading it. With a book, by the time you realize you do not like it, you are at least 100 pages in.

I'm half way through this, it's one of those books that gets suggested every month or two but you never read it until you're more or less forced to and you end up absolutely loving it.

EDIT: sorry for the size, but it's a sick cover.
