Paris police have conceived a security plan to keep the torch in a safe "bubble," during its 17-mile (28 km) journey, with a multi-layered protective force to surround the torch as it moves along the route.

French torchbearers will be encircled by several hundred officers, some in riot police vehicles and on motorcycles, others on rollerblades and on foot. Chinese torch escorts will immediately surround the torchbearer, with Paris police on rollerblades moving around them. French firefighters in jogging shoes will encircle the officers on rollerblades while motorcycle police will form the outer layer of securit

GOVERNMENT NEWS SITE ACCESSED FROM BEIJING.

They've been running a lot of stories on TV saying that the Western media is out to make China look bad (they never say why though) and any thing that isn't explained by that line just gets blamed on the Deli L*mm*h. I have a Chinese born and bred girlfriend and I have trouble explaining to her that while the Western media isn't a bastion of honesty, neither is the Chinese.

No, there are many private news agencies and the constitution allows free speech.

BUT, you are not allowed to say anything that threatens stability and security and it is up to the government as to how that is interpreted. News agencies that show the state up on its problems usually have trouble staying on the air.

I don't agree with the olympics this year china is evil...americans are stupid since we are basically selling our country out from under ourselves to china. I dont support the olympics this year...

Yeah, but America supports a global capital market and therefore needs to compete with Chinese imports. Of course, China's RMB may not be as valued as it should be, but the products would still be bought in the US. If you don't want them to sell out then you have to produce cheaper products yourself or not support a global capital market.

And I mean stupid in the sense that it will be fucking up a great event. An event thousands of athletes train for their whole lives. etc etc.

But on the flip side, using it to expose China and its treatment of Tibet is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the Dalai Lama.

The Dalai Lama is straight up lying when saying he has nothing to do with the protests and everything that has happened recently.

Spiritual leader my ass, he is a political mastermind. He has played the world.

Everyone thinks he's God-like.

But when it comes down to politics and everything thats going on, the guy is ruthless.

All the recent demonstrations in Tibet were not peaceful protests. They were violent in nature and organized in in such a way to get a violent reaction from the Chinese. Which is exactly what happened. Which ultimately painted the Tibetans being violently treated by the Chinese.
