Stronzo
Browsed through most of this and agree to some of it.. Socialism..capitalism .. corporate welfare, yada yada.. Then saw this.. The only people I hear that complain about welfare come from upper to wealthy class backgrounds. Are you serious Charlie?! Welfare is a slap in the face of the middle class.. It's the middle class that bust there ass to give their kids a good life, make a name for themselves and in some cases fight bankruptcy, and are too proud to throw in the towel and get government funding. They do all this while continuing to pay some for some hopeless mofo's rent, child support, and luxury goods that destitute people should not have.. To know that my taxed dollar is being used to get a playstation and Sean john..(Enyce, South pole.. what ever these dregs like now) for some govt. cheese eating bastard... That shit sickens me.. And Bone thugs in Harmony sucks the Bo-zak too for that matter.

I work my ass off to support myself and buy the things I wanna buy, but I have to watch my spending otherwise I'll be in the shitter, like many people. Why should I use my earned money to support somebody who just doesn't feel like working?
isayedGIT!
The term welfare is ambiguous. When I hear people criticize welfare, I assume they are talking about the AFDC. The Aid to Families with Dependant Children accounts for 1 percent of the federal budget. Lol at "government cheese eating bastard."
Mensa
1. Welfare helps jobless and in-debt individuals. This is true, if you view "helping" someone as throwing money/whatever at them. It's that act that takes away the incentive to work, as i'll be addressing later on... In my mind, it's disrespectful to throw money at someone. It insinuates that they can't make it on their own, which is insulting. 2. Starting a business is risky; If you fail to run a business you may be in serious debt and even jobless. I have two responses to this A. People have tried and failed to start businesses for years, through all of history. And really, is the problem actually solved by giving people a handout? A better way to decrease the risk of your business failing would be decreasing your losses. We Need Tax Reform. B. What's to stop them from getting employed? Why do they have to "start a business"? 3. So, welfare decreases the risk of starting a business. 4. Therefore, if the jobless and in-debt receive welfare then more individuals will be willing to start a business. For point 3: see my "A" response. For point 4: "more willing"... maybe, but we really need to see evidence that they actually do if that claim holds any weight whatsoever. and... IsayedGIT is on point. christo-f
Well, here's another slant on welfare for you. This is a case of welfare for Americans, do you think it should happen or should it be up to their families to support them instead of taking money out of your pocket...., the money you worked hard to put there? http://www.12ozprophet.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6284449#post6284449

InfraRed
Anyone who opposes welfare can just stop paying taxes. Do what you gotta do.
angelofdeath
true. alot of anti war people in the 60's supported this. the problem is... when the IRS gets you, if you still forcibly resist paying the taxes, going to trial and going to prison for failure to pay your taxes, you will be killed because it is illegal. so this is not really an option for most people. injury
My thoughts on the Welfare system summed up nicely: Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for life. I'll respond more in depth later... Job training and workshops would be a great start, and many charities already support those services (you can support them by volunteering or donating money, they all need it). If you have a skill to teach, please do. Mentoring is a good way to help kids as well, although to stay on topic.. I was always anti-welfare until I took an ethics class that had a focused unit on welfare. It's really an interesting topic. Yes, there will always be people who will abuse the system, but there's many more who do not and genuinely need the money. Additionally, the welfare payments are not nearly enough to live off in most major cities after the bills are paid.
YouMad.GIF
what do you define as "welfare"? My family gets food stamps and WIC vouchers, as does nearly every person I know who has kids and is also marginally employed. I know you ultra libertarian people are going to be heated about that, but honestly it would be really hard to keep everyone well fed without it. YouMad.GIF
Honestly it's one of my core values that the minimum marker of a sucessfull society is keeping it's people well nourished and healthy. Argue 'fairness' and philosophy all you want, but I think that would be a good indicator that stands the test of time.
