last night's homemade pizza

chopped all toppings up small because i wanted it light.

red/green pepper, red onion, ham, cherry tomatoes  salami, anchovies and olives with a bit much mozzarella.

the base was a supermarket jobbie that was slightly warped in the freezer and was a bit like a plate with raised edges. made for a crispy underside so often lacking in a home pizza

okay so the feedback

 wholemeal base 3/4 tomato paste/p[izza sauceIMG_1211.thumb.jpg.f3179f36b2c4f67b2ee45f135052bcee.jpg

added 1/4 of the pizza with the Bolognese sauce and here's the thing.

The bolognese sauce was too meaty with not enough liquid. ( when making it I threw in more than required meat but left out some tomatoes by mistake)IMG_1212.thumb.jpg.eb0602662cc5c83c7fb0f38434619d5a.jpg

Toppings on

wanted it cheesy so cheese on and in the oven.

I lot of the fat from the sauce was bubbling up in the ovenIMG_1214.thumb.jpg.18879023768a09000df185ad2a288565.jpg

Came out alright (bolognese slices in the corner

time for the tasting

The VERDICT:

A fail.

1. Firstly I wanted it to be like a turkish lahmacun but the sauce was too thick and meaty.

The addition of Mozzarella on top did nothing to ease the inherent stodginess of a much too dry sauce made drier by the time in the oven.

Secondly the flavour is just not right for a pizza.

Pizza is about the contrasts of the anchovies to the mozzarella etc. and the taste of the base.

Bolognese sauce has the meat, the onions, bay leaves, red wine, oregano etc. IT's a big confusing mess on pizza no matter how thinly you spread it.

 There you go!

I did it so you don't have to.

my first homemade pizza. didn't make the dough myself, i bought a pizza shell at the store...but everything else was from scratch, including the sauce which was cooking down on the stovetop all day. even grew most of the veggies, herbs, and spices right in the back yard!
