Went on down Akron way, got a feeling that the more interesting parts to walk are Northwest of and Southeast of Downtown, but how can a person not start downtown on their first visit to a city. Courthouse, note the KIA soul, a much loved vehicle in Northeast Ohio. Pretty extensive road and building rehab underway. What a beauty. OFFICER! Just the man I have been looking for, let me tell ya... Campus, they study polymer here, which as I understand it is Ohio's second biggest industry, following agriculture. At any rate, when you meet a nerd here they are usually like engineering type nerds, who I appreciate more, frankly, than the information technology type nerds we have back home. I would rather here about how to make some funky gasket than how to optimize some functionality of a computer application. Student housing, pretty vacated. Time to get off campus. They love putting numbers on doors here, must be some fire code thing. Some historic building that made my list. Fire and structural damage. Food bank line and old building. Some of the food bank lines are crazy right now, like the whole muni lot back in Cleveland. Library. In case you need a number. Head on down to High Street, bet there will be more than one dispensary named such if Ohio ever goes legal. I just spent five minutes trying to figure out if this establishment is still open. The Glendale bell tower. Flat topped numbers like a G Nice sculpture. Good lettering. At mausoleums that I have seen in Cleveland and Pittsburgh the stained glass is usually gone by now or blocked by some protecting screen. Nice to see the ones here fair better. How long till it tips? Depression era works. You can take this path from here to Cleveland, almost without interruption. Art Museum, closed, looks worth checking out. Headed on back to the truck. I have been out there three times over the past two years, neat town. Good symphony, not as good as Cleveland but still solid and they always have little side performances either before or after which is pretty sweet.
