Hi. I am Mams. This Thanksgiving weekend, we went camping.

Download the (short) soundtrack for full audiovisual experience*. You may listen to the 2 songs in whatever order you wish.

Lago Luchetti, a lake/dam/nature preserve on the southwest of Puerto Rico.

This is where we stayed at. It's not very big, but it's fucking amazing.

The red circle points towards the little jetty of land we called home for a weekend.

We were in campsite A, meaning the very first and most badass campsite of them all.

There was absolutely NO ONE else on the entire campground the whole weekend.

Actually, that's a lie, a group of weird nuns came in one day and started singing to Jesus,

but they were across the lake, so it was OK with me.

This girl was entirely way too overdressed for this. We made fun of her quite a bit,

until we found out she is a crazy voodoo witch.

Allow me to explain.

DSC_0289.jpg

There was a LOT of rain expected for the weekend, so we were bracing for a muddy mess.

True enough, we had barely laid out our tents when the first droplets started to fall.

This girl calmly filled a cup of water, put a plate on top of it, turned it upside down, and put it on the ground.

"Be careful not to knock this thing over, and leave it for the rest of the weekend, it'll keep the rain away."

It was fucking true. The rain stopped and didn't fall again the whole weekend.

We quickly shut the fuck up about her fancy camping fashion.

"We love you, wacky voodoo rain cup. You make everything better."

We guys had no problem peeing anywhere. The girls did.

The bathrooms were kinda far away, so we set up a makeshift toilet under a tarp behind the tents for the girls.

This was the paper holder.

Pass out status.

Hookah and a sunset.

Chill night with illegal campfire.

Rise and shine.

Breakfast. These people seem to know what they're doing.

Guess who's the lawyer, and which car belongs to him.

This crew of ducks were pretty much chilling next to us the whole weekend.

There was another duck with them, a brown one, but he got cut out of pretty much all the pictures

by my friend who thought he was ugly.

Another little dude who stopped by often.

DSC_0278.jpg

And a crane. These guys are everywhere.

DSC_0292.jpg

All these birds and prettiness and shit got us in the mood for a nature walk/critter search.

But first we had to paint our faces with achiote.

Allergic reactions were a distinct but thankfully unrealized possibility.

First thing we encountered was this millipede dude. He wouldn't stay still for the camera.

Wheeeeeeeeeee.

I like to look at this picture while listening to a weird droning sound like this.

DSC_0099_blowup.jpg

Wasps. The camera was practically bumping against the nest, I have no idea how they didn't flip out and attack us.

DSC_0102_blowup.jpg

And we found this bigass fancypants spider. It was big and fancy, but it was missing a leg.

DSC_0102.jpg

"HA-ha!"

Cripple.

DSC_0058.jpg

And we finally came upon this crazy hidden porch that had a nice view of our camp.

Quickie lunch update:

DSC_0201.jpg

An ominous feeling of dread creeped over the tree line. It was a sign of a darkness to come the following day.

DSC_0229.jpg

But who cares, we want to eat.

We sought refuge in the safety of the gazebo.

DSC_0210.jpg

Our BBQ is so ill it glows like a spotlight.

We weren't fucking around when it came to food.

It would have been great to have actually hunted this with our bare hands,

but we found no large mammals to consume.

Our fishing was completely unsuccesful as well, unlike Mr. Crane up there.

DSC_0242.jpg

Stuffed with food, I sat down to look at the fire intently.

DSC_0233.jpg

I made it die with the power of my own staring.

The fact that the wood was extremely wet may have helped.

There may have been no rain, but the humidity was insane.

The tents were completely soaked in the morning from condensation alone.

DSC_0226.jpg

There was this shady little cabin across the lake.

We theorized that the name Luchetti came from the old man who lives here with a telescope and looks at the girls while they pee.

We hadn't made the porch connection, but it makes sense. He probably has a tunnel that goes under the lake and ends up there.

DSC_0239.jpg

The moon was full and bright as hell, we barely needed any lights that night.

This picture was taken at 1 AM, by the way.

More later.
