Poop Man Bob
http://www.segway.com/consumer/home_flash.html http://www.theginger.com/pic.jpg'> When I saw South Park's episode making fun of Ginger, I honestly had no idea what it was referring to. But the episode was hilarious, so I was happy. THEN. I read an article in last week's Time (http://www.time.com/time/business/article/...,186660,00.html) that discusses Ginger and it's creator. Essentially, it is a battery operated scooter that can reach speeds of up to 17 mph and can travel about 17 miles before the battery needs recharging. It has no steering wheel, no brakes, no engine, and no throttle. Plus it's reportedly almost impossible to lose your balance while riding it. Taken from the Segway homepage - "Segway HT balances through a technology we call dynamic stabilization. To understand how it works, think about how you balance. You have an inner ear that provides equilibrium, visual perception that lets you know where you are, a brain to process data and send commands, and muscles to carry out those actions. Dynamic stabilization works the same way, using gyroscopes and tilt sensors, software and circuit boards, and high-powered electric motors. Because it balances the way you do, Segway HT doesn't need input devices, like brakes or an accelerator. Lean forward and you move forward. Lean more, and you move faster. Straighten up and you glide to a stop. Lean back, and you move in reverse. Rotate your wrist in either direction, and you turn. Segway HT's technology makes it happen so naturally, it almost feels invisible." http://www.cnn.com/2001/TECH/ptech/12/03/scooter.unveiling/story.kamen.jpg'> The dude that created it is saying that it will revolutionize the world. Do you think that's a bit of a stretch? Or do you think he's right on?

bobobi11
I think this has some great potential as a way of reducing the cars on the road for short trips. Most people got on short (1-5) mile trips on average. This would be cheaper, environmentally friendly, and fun. I don't know. Regarding the price, give it a year or two and it will go down. As this thing catches on, volume sales will drop the cost.
Smart
Originally posted by bobobi11 I think this has some great potential as a way of reducing the cars on the road for short trips... they invented that already, it's called the bicycle... I guess this is the type of bike you can ride and still gain weight huh?
bobobi11
I would agree and personally I don't drive, I walk, bike or take mass transit. However there are lazy people who are unwilling to ride a bike because it takes work, this is so easy they may be willing to get out of their cars. I could care less if they are fat or not, I would like to see less cars on the road.
