earl broclo ESQ
i was told to start this thread in here, but i know i'm going to get shit for this. some kid started a "going to new york" thread in third rail, so i was looking for info in there. only thing, the thread was started by a window licking mouth breathing fool, who called himself "COPE2 living legend." he started the thread only to find out if he could get cans over the border. stupid fuck. my question is this. i'm moving to brooklyn in october. my lady is down there right now working full time and searching for an apartment. i want to help her out from where i'm at, but don't really know where to look. if anyone knows of any websites (other than craigslist) that has apartment/loft listings (broker free), let me know. i'm also looking for work, so if anyone knows any good sites (not the obvious) for jobs in the city, i'd appreciate that as well. i'm just trying to find as many avenues to use for this info. moderators: if there is already a thread for this shit, i couldn't find one. if you could, just send me a PM with the thread in it, and i'll post in there and you can delete this shit. i'm not trying to be a fucking knucklehead, i'm just trying to find a space to live in. if this thread does stay alive, so it's not a total waste, maybe people can use it to find out or promote what's going on in the city. earl broclo ESQ
right now i'm a camera operator. i shoot slide film for a cinema advertising agency. i'm looking for jobs in our new york office, but i'm also looking for a back up plan in case i can't get in to that. i'm a certified avid editor (film/video), but haven't been near a machine in five years. i was also a cameraman for a live concert production team in boston. unfortunately, they wouldn't let me use my footage to cut a demo reel, so i have nothing to show for it. my goal is to get down there, start working, and go back to school, nights and weekends, for illustration and graphic design. Elizabeth MontgomeryOner
that's a good idea too it works You might want to bring a baseball bat to ward off the usually black and latino gentrification picketers but for the location, location, location it's worth it. And you'll find a job you've got something legitimate put your resume up on monster search the nytimes, craigslist. Have a ball knock yourself out don't steal my jobs and house
earl broclo ESQ
i'm not too worried about finding work, i think i can handle that. i'm more worried about my lady finding an apartment, while working crazy hours at her new job. if craigslist and the nytimes are the best choices, than i'll stay looking on there. i just didn't know if there were any free press style renter's guides, with matching websites. the kind you see at the grocery store, next to the want advertisers. basically, i'm just reaching here to see what i can find. i don't know a single soul in nyc, and my lady just keeps saying "craigslist." Harvey Wallbanger
Yeah, Craigslist is the way to go. If you like graffiti, music, parties, restaurants, and drinking, Brooklyn is a really fun place to live.
earl broclo ESQ
she wants to stay in brooklyn right now, so that's where i'll end up. ok, so craigslist is what i've got to work with. i'll stick with that. maybe i can get some more help from people. i'm hoping to find some kind of bar to play records at. i don't do any fancy turntable tricks, or any techno club bullshit. i play a mix of soul/funk/original breaks, hip hop, trip hop, jazz, and classic reggae (50's-60's). if anyone knows anywhere that this shit might cater too --let me know. if anyone has a night, plays similar shit, and is looking for some help --let me know. i've been playing a weekly for almost two years now, and it's something i'd like to continue doing. earl broclo ESQ
go to bushwick, move into an illegaly occupied loft appartment and gentrify the neighbourhood. i talked to my girl last night, and she was talking the same tone. except she's looking for legit apartments, not illegal lofts. i don't want to be part of a gentrification program. doesn't that mean i have to tighten my pants up to where my nuts can't breathe, rock a corny moustache and sweater, and start talking about politics and reform 100% of the time? i don't want to start dressing like a high school english teacher from 1984 either. i have a feeling it's going to be hard for me to adapt to the over abundance of hipster doofuses. i really need to work harder on my meditation skills. i could be wrong. i've never really been to the city. Tyler Durden
I'm from Ohio! So is everyone else in Williamsburg.... Tyler Durden
Actually, I'm in a helpful mood right now.... how much money do you have to work with? And is there any reason that you absolutely have to be in that area (ie: working nearby...)?
earl broclo ESQ
my ladyfriend is the one who's finding the apartment. she wants to be in brooklyn, and bushwick is where she's looking. as for money, right now she's making 50,000 a year, and i'm still waiting to hear about a transfer with my company. i'm not too worried about the loot issue, as much as i am her safety.
