INFO ON NEW YORK CITY?

i was told to start this thread in here, but i know i'm going to get shit for this. some kid started a "going to new york" thread in third rail, so i was looking for info in there. only thing, the thread was started by a window licking mouth breathing fool, who called himself "COPE2 living legend." he started the thread only to find out if he could get cans over the border. stupid fuck.

my question is this. i'm moving to brooklyn in october. my lady is down there right now working full time and searching for an apartment. i want to help her out from where i'm at, but don't really know where to look. if anyone knows of any websites (other than craigslist) that has apartment/loft listings (broker free), let me know. i'm also looking for work, so if anyone knows any good sites (not the obvious) for jobs in the city, i'd appreciate that as well. i'm just trying to find as many avenues to use for this info.

moderators: if there is already a thread for this shit, i couldn't find one. if you could, just send me a PM with the thread in it, and i'll post in there and you can delete this shit. i'm not trying to be a fucking knucklehead, i'm just trying to find a space to live in.

if this thread does stay alive, so it's not a total waste, maybe people can use it to find out or promote what's going on in the city.

Go to Williamsburg, grow a beard, get a fixed gear bike and continue to post on here till you hit unstoppable status. Also, Get a shirt that says I heart NY. What do I know? I'm from Ohio!

Sounds like you know everything there is to ever know.

Good luck on the job thing oh and the apt thing too ha, What do you do?

right now i'm a camera operator. i shoot slide film for a cinema advertising agency. i'm looking for jobs in our new york office, but i'm also looking for a back up plan in case i can't get in to that. i'm a certified avid editor (film/video), but haven't been near a machine in five years. i was also a cameraman for a live concert production team in boston. unfortunately, they wouldn't let me use my footage to cut a demo reel, so i have nothing to show for it.

my goal is to get down there, start working, and go back to school, nights and weekends, for illustration and graphic design.

that's a good idea too

it works

You might want to bring a baseball bat to ward off the usually

black and latino gentrification picketers

but for the location, location, location

it's worth it.

And you'll find a job

you've got something legitimate put your resume up on monster

search the nytimes, craigslist. Have a ball knock yourself out don't steal my jobs and house

i'm not too worried about finding work, i think i can handle that. i'm more worried about my lady finding an apartment, while working crazy hours at her new job. if craigslist and the nytimes are the best choices, than i'll stay looking on there. i just didn't know if there were any free press style renter's guides, with matching websites. the kind you see at the grocery store, next to the want advertisers. basically, i'm just reaching here to see what i can find. i don't know a single soul in nyc, and my lady just keeps saying "craigslist."

she wants to stay in brooklyn right now, so that's where i'll end up.

ok, so craigslist is what i've got to work with. i'll stick with that.

maybe i can get some more help from people. i'm hoping to find some kind of bar to play records at. i don't do any fancy turntable tricks, or any techno club bullshit. i play a mix of soul/funk/original breaks, hip hop, trip hop, jazz, and classic reggae (50's-60's). if anyone knows anywhere that this shit might cater too --let me know. if anyone has a night, plays similar shit, and is looking for some help --let me know. i've been playing a weekly for almost two years now, and it's something i'd like to continue doing.

Real sweet faces

Every different nation spanish hatian indian jamaican

Black white cuban and asian

I only came for two days of playing

But everytime I come I always wind up stayin

This the type of town I could spend a few days in

Miami the city that keeps the roof blazin

Chorus

Party in the city where the heat is on

All night on the beach till the break of dawn

Welcome to miami

Buenvenidos a miami

Bouncin in the club where the heat is on

All night on the beach till the break of dawn

Im goin to miami

Welcome to miami

Verse 2

Yo I heard the rainstorms aint nothin to mess with

But I cant feel a drip on the strip its a trip

Ladies half dressed fully equipped

And they be screamin out will we loved your last hit

So Im thinkin ima scoot me somethin hot

In this south sea merengue melting pot

Hottest club in the city and its right on the beach

Temperature get to ya its about to reach

Five hundred degrees

In the carribean seas with the hot mommies

Screamin aii poppy

Everytime I come to town they be spottin me

In the drop bentley aint no stoppin me

So cash in your door

We flow to this fashion show

Pound for pound anywhere you go

Yo aint no city in the world like this

An if you ask how I know I gots ta feed the film

Chorus

Verse 3

Dont get me wrong shytown got it goin on

An new york is the city that we know dont sleep

An we all know that l a and philly stay jiggy

But on the sneak miami bringin heat for real

I never seen so many dominican women with cinnimon tans

Mierda this is the plan

Take a walk on the beach draw a heart in the sand

Gimmie your hand

Damn you look sexy

Lets go to my yacht in the west keys

Ride my jetskis loungin in the palm trees

Cause you gotta have cheese for the summerhouse piece on southbeach

Water so clear you can see to the bottom

Hundred thousand dollar cars eybody got em

Aint no surprise in the club to see sly stallone

Miami my second home

go to bushwick, move into an illegaly occupied loft appartment and gentrify the neighbourhood.

i talked to my girl last night, and she was talking the same tone. except she's looking for legit apartments, not illegal lofts. i don't want to be part of a gentrification program. doesn't that mean i have to tighten my pants up to where my nuts can't breathe, rock a corny moustache and sweater, and start talking about politics and reform 100% of the time? i don't want to start dressing like a high school english teacher from 1984 either. i have a feeling it's going to be hard for me to adapt to the over abundance of hipster doofuses. i really need to work harder on my meditation skills.

i could be wrong. i've never really been to the city.
