The black box must be there legally so you're definitely getting a stamp for that. I wouldn't go over the #s, but if you do it's rather easy to write them back above. This is especially important in lay-ups and spots where the cars were already sorted because that's how the workers knew how to put what where. Chill and watch the workers do their job at night and you'll see, they definitely use those #s regularly. Thankfully newer cars have that shit posted up above the panel.

Workers generally use the numbers on the trucks, or the back ends of the car. Yards have scanners, hump yards use scanners almost exclusively.

 

Anything that is written on the side of the car, by the owner, is needed, so go around it, thats a good thing.

 

 

Better yet, most you people should just stop painting trains, you're taking up room for real freight writers

i've kinda been wondering lately what would happen if some asshole were to go into a yard with letter/number stencils and just completely restamp something random, letters and numbers. like turning an EEC into a KCS for example.

 

i was going to do this once upon a time.

 

i want to repaint a whole car.

 

change a fucking gvsr flat into something that doesnt even exist.

as long as kids arent doing dumb shit blowing spots then it doesnt really matter what theyre painting.

i know if i see a car i want and its got wack shit on it i just go over it. problem solved.
