kendrink bellamy
yeah! blaze those numbers! disconnect the brake hoses and stick them between the tracks in the automated switches! cut the seals on the doors and move the "unload from other side" sign to the other side! Kick down all the whistle signs!

bentone
you don't have to tape off the whole black box, just tape off the important stuff in there, like build date and when shit was rebuilt. tape off any numbers or info inside it. ive seen a lot of stuff not get stamped when you do that. dzenomedia
ran into the workers couple of weeks ago and they basically said DO NOT paint over the numbers, don't leave trash around, and do not break into the cars. they didn't give a shit about painting them, but just follow those 3 rules.
dzenomedia
plus I don't go over numbers cause that means they have to pull the train off the line to get it stamped and who knows how long it stays off from running. also, have you seen how nasty and hidious they stamp you, fuck that, no thanks!!! Mr. Incognito
whoever is gonna say "fuck the numbers" should just stop painting freights all together because you must not understand it in the first place. idiots.
john_gacy
The black box must be there legally so you're definitely getting a stamp for that. I wouldn't go over the #s, but if you do it's rather easy to write them back above. This is especially important in lay-ups and spots where the cars were already sorted because that's how the workers knew how to put what where. Chill and watch the workers do their job at night and you'll see, they definitely use those #s regularly. Thankfully newer cars have that shit posted up above the panel. Mr. Incognito
i've kinda been wondering lately what would happen if some asshole were to go into a yard with letter/number stencils and just completely restamp something random, letters and numbers. like turning an EEC into a KCS for example. Dranx0
waste of time because they'd know. It would also alert extra attention to the area.

Workers generally use the numbers on the trucks, or the back ends of the car. Yards have scanners, hump yards use scanners almost exclusively. Anything that is written on the side of the car, by the owner, is needed, so go around it, thats a good thing. Better yet, most you people should just stop painting trains, you're taking up room for real freight writers

rolling nowhere
Better yet, most you people should just stop painting trains, you're taking up room for real freight writers theres lots of wack junk out there. but who are you? yard master general? as long as kids arent doing dumb shit blowing spots then it doesnt really matter what theyre painting. i know if i see a car i want and its got wack shit on it i just go over it. problem solved.
