The city of Boston, Massachusetts, USA, has many nicknames due to historical context. They include:

* The City on a Hill came from original Massachusetts Bay Colony's governor John Winthrop's goal to create the biblical "City on a Hill." It also refers to the original three hills of Boston.

* The Hub is a shortened form of a phrase recorded by writer Oliver Wendell Holmes, The Hub of the Solar System. This has since developed into The Hub of the Universe.

* The Athens of America is a title given by William Tudor, co-founder of the North American Review for Boston's great cultural and intellectual influence.

* The Puritan City nickname references the religion of the city's founders.

* The Cradle of Liberty derives from Boston's role in instigating the American Revolution.

* City of Notions in the nineteenth century.

* The Walking City, because Boston's compact and high density nature has made walking an effective and popular mode of transit in the city. In fact, it has the seventh-highest percentage of pedestrian commuters of any city in the United States, while neighboring Cambridge is the highest.

* Bean Town refers to the regional dish of baked beans.

Rocinha=Roca (pronounced "Hossa") means little farm

Rocinha (means=little field) began in the 1930 with migration from the northeast of brasil

after the Canudos War in 1889..people migrated to find jobs. They found some jobs but

no housing so they build the shacks on the hills in Rio de Janeiro. The word "Favela" comes

from a plant that grew in the hills that was hard to destroy. The first "poor" residents

settled on Morro da Providencia which is dowtown Rio. The word "Morro" means hill but if you are in Rio and say "Eu moro no morro" means= "I live on the hill"...this is the same as saying, I live in a/the "Favela"....because in Rio, favelas dominte the hillsides..the word favela although associte with the flower or plant too...mostly means now "Gueto" or "Slum"...we prefer gueto to the word slum..

the word "Favela" or "Morro" is ok too...many people also say "Comunidade" (Comunity)this also indicate a favela too...
