itsallafarce
that porter house looks more like a ny strip.
theprotester
I think we call a T-bone, what you call a Porterhouse. Most people in AUS wouldn't expect a Porterhouse to be a T-bone. This; From the Australian Farmers Union is a Porterhouse Steak. Never heard of NY strip before, but having a look, it's the same thing as what I posted for sure, we'd consider that a Porterhouse. Weird.
redeyedanimal
a tbone and a porterhouse are very similar. Not sure about the striploin-sirloin thing though...
theprotester
@redeye: Sorry, edited that out somehow, for reference; I was asking about striploin in reference to sirloin? Anyone in the know? I love red meat but I must admit I'm definitely not full bottle on terminology.
redeyedanimal
haha, i can understand not having heard of a new york strip outside the United States, but strangely until now I never considered that. The pic def looks like a NY strip. I would assume striploin and sirloin were the same, a steak cut form the tenderloin of the cow, but it is just an assumption. i do not have much knowledge about butchery, especially foreign terminology relating to butchery. theprotester
Haha fair call, I can't recall of ever hearing about NY strip before. Either way, it was tasty as hell, sauce 'n all!
itsallafarce
striploin and sirloin are not the same. sirloin primals (before theyre cut down to roasts or steaks) are more towards the rear practically the rump of the cow. strip loin primals are what ny strips are cut out from. just after the ribyeye niether come from the tenderloin which only filet mignons and tournedos are cut from that is tucked up between the short loin and sirloin and is a very under used muscle which makes it so tender. a tbone and a porter house differ and are classified by the ratio of the tender loin that is on the steak. map of a cow this is the break done of most bovine animals (lamb, venison, beef and such)

da1lyoperations
Mothers Day lunch, cooked up some chicken. Roasted with some veggies - turnip, green apple, carrot, potato, onion etc.. Cooked in a cup of cream + half a cup of maple syrup, mixed. Some cinnamon and other stuff thrown in too. Some of the veggies stuffed in the chicken Soaked up some sun waiting for it to roast Veggies came out, also had some rice with the excess veggies mixed in Old man is giving up meat (in the process of..) so cooked himself some fish with some kind of beans/mushrooms Finished up and had a coffee, added some of the leftover maple syrup. very nice.
