Give props to the ones who made DC graff Evade,Felon,Smk,NAA crew, Clear, Some, Ever, Bear, Eon, Cast, Ultra, Sime, FFC, TFM crew, Cose, all the old school heads who were painting when i lived there.. Those are the names i would see every day...over the last 5 years i ahve seen DC graffiti slowly dwingling.. its sad but its true...
Guest cover .
to KONG.. e-mail me.. at pjaysun@aol.com i met u at tower records that day before u left to college. i got some stuff i want to talk to u about. and to all the older DC cats... i apologize for all the toys who messed up your spots. not all the 2nd and 3rd generation writers are like that. us younger guys support and respect u guys... so work with us.. so we can keep DC alive. we'll put in our part and u guys be our mentor. i totally agree with clear in his free agents book. "before too long, DC's time will come again. Every year more new writers with promise pop up. Some of them will stick around long enough to make a difference." peace. the nova
ohh come on free agents had a lot of classic shit in it but it definetly was one sided (as usual) I can think of at least 20 writers it left out. If you are going to include sime and eon you would also have to include other people painting during that time. what about all the elk shit in dc,,,, vaze , kade, evil (seva), tale, cose, coma, nore, clue, the list goes on and on.... all of the above have painted way more than sime and eon..... you cant write a book about the history of a city and only include the people your buddies with. like i said there is some classic dc shit in there but its not like it was a magazine article...that book is going to be looked back on and people are not going to know the whole story.... you have to either include everyone or not do it at all..... I don't know just my 2 cents.
Guest !!!
on vaze/evil/kade and the rest of ai; those kids are def. on the underrated list when in comes to dc. that crew single handly put in work in almost every aspect of illegal graffiti in washington dc in the late ninties. jale still has parts of dc on lock. same goes with eon, despite all the shit talking that revolves around that kid, he's been around for a long time. more than you think. i'm not stating that he could bless a wall as well as he could bless a mic, but that doesn't matter if your talking about quanity. v-street was the perfect example of late ninties dc graffiti, in my opinion. just around the time the hall of fame started to get real heated. and this is all coming from a outsider who had a look into the scene with help from a friend who came up with a lot of these kids. i got the run around, i suppose, if it was at all biased, whos to say. i know what i observered thought and am willing to hand out props that i think are well deservered. can any one confirm if the felon/smk/cha little prodo. is still there. that has to be one of my favorite walls ever... NCQ3... one of the OG's of the red line..... GLOCK, NICA..and the whole BU crew went pretty hard...a crew outta Maryland called ESC(ASONE, FIN, STATIC...) those kids were getting down when i started in 91. lots and lots of middle school dc cats got left out... I'm gonna have to disagree. It's a nice Tri-State area magazine that pretty much focused on all of the major players of Virginia for the premire issue. There's a good selection in there and the VA people he presented were quite possibly the #1 champ-yons of the Old Dominion. I mean you have ups, but those kids have way more ups and they're in demand. When you ask out of state kids "Who would you like to see from VA" they would probably say "Umm, Elk Rei Sigh Penis". And I'm sure he doesn't know all those cats in the street art section. He put in a lot of work into that magazine and I would buy more to support him for the next. It took a lot of money to publish all of those. And if anyone had their own magazine they would put most of our friends in there. It's a fact. The author of Free Agents was Roger Gastman... Roger Gastman does While You Were Sleeping... Then we have the author of Beautiful Decay... Im not gonna mention his name for his own privacy... Now... These 2 magazines are more or less the only 2 decent graff mags out of the "tri-state" area. Now doesnt it seem kinda wack that the author of Beautiful Decay (THE NOVA) will come on and talk shit bout the only other magazine out of the area? I think so... Seems kinda strange.. I didnt know there was soo much commercialism in graffiti... for a second.. i thought this was an underground subculture that didnt revolve around money and the "Ice on yo neck".. sorry.. i must have been mistaken. the nova
actually talking shit?i was not talking shit...just stating some facts. I give the book its props but there were some that were left out. as for b/d ...the people in the va article all have been putting in work for over 5 years or longer. also there were numerous times that i personally asked for submitions and never got them. every crew that has been painting in va for a established amount of time was represented in that article. Dos, gf, mc, msp,mds,aeo,ebt.... I can think of only a few people that the article left out. (exist, warp, phone, dick, forse, cense, aero, and a few other people.) there are a lot of new guys coming out and they will be featured in future issues but the goal of that article was to give a spotlight to people that are steadily building a scene from the ground up. I would like to hear a valid arguement against featuring any of the people in that 2 page spread. As far as my name being mentioned in that write up ..blame it on elk. I told him to write anything he wanted to about VA graff and thats what he wrote. I almost didn't run the article but he talked me into it. those are his words and they are uncensored. people expect me to travel all through out the state and flick shit. come on. if you didn't get in dont get your panties in a bunch send your shit in. if its good ill hook it up no bullshit graff politics. Also there is a difference between a graff mag and a book like i stated earlier. while you were sleeping started as a graff mag and was great. It has taken a new turn and changed its content. That is fine by me. it is professionally done and for that i give roger props. he is a good businessman and has put a lot of time and energy into wyws. its not the type of mag i do but to each his own. the whole point of what i said was that some people were left out and that is a shame since they might be forgotten in the future. b/d
no i think the fact is that unless you pay your dues for a established period of time you shouldn't expect to get national exposure. and like i said send in the flicks if its good stuff we will print it. we don't have any weird flick picking method. good shit gets in the mag. that is it..... we don't print anything that is not top notch (more or less). send your stuff to: b/d p o box 1824 baltimore, md 21203
