swif1
Check out Senna. It's about an F1 driver. Yep. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/senna/ Edit: Before you watch Senna, check out this hour-long documentary on the safety in F1 racing during the 60s and 70s. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-N9-QrRl1Uk
complex
the dude who directed that is dead. He thought going to foreign countries and documenting battle was a good idea so he is now dead. It makes sense you know. If your dick gets hard getting in fire fights you are going to die. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/21/world/africa/21photographers.html ********************Edit. I haven't checked this thread in a while so I got the bottom of page 22 and thought RESTREPO was the most recent post
da1lyoperations
If you don't like it then don't say anything, no need to be disrespectful. Without photojournalists we wouldn't know what happens in war in a visual sense, we wouldn't have seen the real suffering. You're not going to say 'serves them right' about a soldier fighting in a war if they were to be killed. A journalist is bringing back imagery of the violence and turmoil that war is. Which in history has been a tool to spark change because they are able to show the world the realism of war, not just let people believe what they're told is happening. Watch War Photographer which I posted on the last page, James Nachtwey says himself that photojournalists know they could die any day but they want to do something which could provoke a change.
complex
I am not making the claim it serves them right. I am making the comment that if you go to war, your have to be 100% comfortable that you may die at any moment. The reason you may feel I was disrespectful is because I just stated the truth with absolutely zero sugar coating. The truth hurts, get comfortable with that. The first two sentences are true with irrefutable evidence. The last two sentences are geared towards the soldiers who, after a fire fight, make claims such as " I live for this shit... I don't know what else could give me such a satisfying rush as this" (Not verbatim). Explained.
GZOO
Louis Theroux documentaries are really good and entertaining. Indian Gurus Louis travels to India to witness Westerners seeking enlightenment. In Goa he meets 57-year old American astrologer (and former psychology professor) "Deepak" who studies meditation. He moves on to meet Mike, who is a follower of Swami Ganapathi Sachchidananda, and Amma who claims spiritual powers through hugging people. He then re-joins Amma on a pilgrimage with 400 believers on their three-month tour of India. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCAWd9GEoRE The Most Hated Family in America Louis gets to know the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas – whose members are nearly all from one family and are infamous for extreme homophobia and picketing the funerals of fallen soldiers. Law and Disorder in Philadelphia Louis joins Philadelphia's police department, patrolling an area that has over 400 homicides a year, drug dealers on every corner and where carrying a gun is part of everyday life. But during his time spent with the local cops, he sees a complex picture evolve. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSX0CXjzDS8 "They killin' cats!" The Ultra Zionists Louis Theroux spends time with a small and very committed subculture of ultra-nationalist Jewish settlers in the West Bank. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=5b5_1296839810 P.1 http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=841_1296840678 P.2 http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=15b_1296843018 P.3 http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=82c_1296843760 P.4 Miami Mega Jail Part 1 Louis Theroux spends time in one of the most notorious sections of Miami County Jail: the fifth and sixth floor of 'Main Jail', where many of the most volatile inmates are incarcerated. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Px2kTQKZaSU Miami Mega Jail Part 2 Louis Theroux goes deeper into the jail system and meets an inmate facing a possible death sentence. He also follows a group of younger inmates who have escaped prison by pleading guilty and agreeing to attend a four month military style boot camp. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQLVA6FeVbE
