jolietheintern
"Represent, Represent! The Tempt One Art Benefit" A Noble Cause For a Noble Man: An Art Benefit Show For Tony 'Tempt' Quan, 'King of Los Angeles Graffiti' At URB Art Gallery in Culver City, CA Saturday, March 10, 2007 CULVER CITY, CA – Presented by URB Magazine, Dissizit! Brand, and The Seventh Letter, "Represent, Represent! The Tempt One Art Benefit," is a one-time benefit show to raise funds for Tony 'Tempt' Quan, which will take place on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at the URB Art Gallery in Culver City. Approximately 100 artists (fellow graffiti artists and contemporary legends) are uniting for this event in sole support of Tempt. Legendary urban artists such as Barry McGee, Haze, Mr. Cartoon, and Shepard Fairey will be creating original artwork for this once-in-a-lifetime exhibition. Join many of the artists in person from 7:00pm – 11:00pm at the URB Art Gallery, located at 8553 Washington Blvd., Culver City, CA 90232. For more information, please visit http://www.temptone.com or visit http://www.myspace.com/temptone. Represent, Represent! is to raise funds for artist Tony 'Tempt' Quan, who was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) in 2003, a disease characterized by progressive muscle weakness, ultimately resulting in paralysis. Tempt is from the old school era, an original graffiti writer pioneering since the early '80s who is known for his keen eye for simplicity, clean hand styles and is respected for his dedication to the graffiti movement. He, along with Relic, conceived one of LA's first graffiti magazines, Big Time. Hospitalized for 19 months, those who love and care for Tempt are filled with the hope that he can return home to the loving care of his family, which will undoubtedly lift his spirits and strengthen his will to continue this war against ALS. Due to the seriousness of this disease, he will need special medical attention, around the clock nursing and equipment to sustain him in a home environment. This event will draw artists, collectors, agents, publishers, tastemakers and other industry professionals alike. All proceeds from event will be donated to the Quan family. "Represent, Represent!" offers fans, professionals, and the general public an ideal opportunity to view and purchase custom works by 100 world-renowned contemporary artists. Over 100 original canvases and 18 spray can sculptures painted by graffiti legends and contemporary artists nationally recognized by the art world today will be available for purchase. But the scope of the outpouring of support from all corners of the art world was something I didn't expect. This effort has really touched people, and I know it will mean something to Tempt, his family and the art community at large." Famed graffiti artist Eklips (The Seventh Letter/Known Gallery) adds "I'm blessed to be able to show my respect to Tempt in this way." There will also be a VIP preview for serious buyers and collectors, that same day from 1:00pm – 4:00pm at the gallery (Invitations will be sent to buyers or you can email represent@urb.com for more info). The URB Gallery is 2,800 square feet of creative space, primed for hosting live music and art events, situated in the heart of Culver City's bustling artist community. The space has been denoted "More than a marriage of street culture and art, it's a marriage of senses and soul. Where energy is renewed leading to a more conscious, centered, and creative life."
