AnthonyOTorres
On January 3rd the Columbian reported that UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen has plead guilty to federal money laundering charges involving Vancouver firm. An Oregon real estate agent has pleaded guilty to money laundering in connection with a mortgage fraud case involving Vancouver-based Lighthouse Financial Group, which also did business under the name Crown Point Financial Services. Chael Sonnen, 33, of West Linn, Ore., entered the plea Monday in U.S. District Court in Portland. He will be sentenced March 28. The maximum sentence is 20 years in prison and a $500,000 fine. According to a news release, Sonnen acted as the real estate agent in a transaction involving a home in Portland, and submitted a false letter and sales agreement instructing the title company to disburse $69,000 to a contractor for plumbing repairs. However, in a deal arranged by Lighthouse employees, $65,000 of the money was actually kicked back to the buyer. Federal prosecutors allege that two Lighthouse employees, Joel Rosabal and Chadwick Amsden, submitted the false loan application to a now-defunct subprime lender. The government is recommending Sonnen be sentenced to two years of probation. As part of his plea deal, Sonnen agreed to give up his Realtor’s license and pay a $10,000 fine, said Michelle Holman Kerin, the assistant U.S. attorney handling the case. AnthonyOTorres
The fallout from UFC 125 continues, as longtime performer Brandon Vera (Pictured) and debuting lightweight Antonio McKee were cut by the promotion after respective losses at UFC 125 on New Year’s Day. UFC 125 took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, headlined by an epic lightweight title clash between champion Frankie Edgar and unbeaten challenger Gray Maynard. Bloody Elbow on Thursday was first to report of the demise of Vera and McKee. Vera has lost three straight fights in the Octagon, falling to Thiago Silva at UFC 125. Throughout the match, the Brazilian controlled the action, taking the fight to the floor and then pounding on Vera from top position. The third round was particularly dominant for Silva, who pinned Vera against the cage and whipped looping punches at the American’s face. One such blow connected with Vera’s nose, breaking it badly. Prior to that defeat, Vera dropped contests to Randy Couture and Jon Jones, respectively. Though he debuted in the UFC as a heavyweight, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt has been fighting at 205 since losing consecutive fights to Tim Sylvia and Fabricio Werdum. Though UFC 125 marked his promotional debut, the 40-year-old McKee has been fighting since 1999. Prior to losing to Jacob Volkmann, McKee had put together a 14-0-1 record in his last 15 fights. The brown belt in judo is a veteran of the Maximum Fighting Championship and the defunct International Fight League promotions. McKee holds notable victories over Marcus Aurelio and Carlo Prater, securing 18 of his 25 wins by decision.

methamphetamyne
Brock Lesnar vs. Junior Dos Santos At June UFC PPV; No Interim Title on the Line Posted on January 11, 2011 by Damon Martin As just announced on Tuesday, former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar will first face off with Junior Dos Santos during the 13th season of the “Ultimate Fighter” and then in June they will meet in the main event of what is expected to be UFC 131. The key component to the match-up however is there will be no interim title, but the winner will face Cain Velasquez upon his return later this year following surgery on his injured shoulder. “No there’s no interim title,” UFC President Dana White confirmed. “Obviously these two are going to coach, and then they’ll fight, and the winner of that fight will fight Cain Velasquez when he’s healthy.” There was a lot of speculation if the UFC would do an interim title with Velasquez sidelined for much of 2011, but now he’ll hold onto his belt and wait for the top contender to emerge after June. Filming for the 13th season of the reality show will begin on Jan 24 or 25 according to White, which will lead to the season debut on Spike TV on March 30. The finale is expected to take place in early June, and then the pay-per-view main event between Lesnar and Dos Santos. While nothing has been confirmed by the UFC, White guaranteed the fight would happen in June and it could land in Vancouver. “It’ll be at the June pay-per-view. It will definitely 100% be in June. Yeah, you could end up getting that fight,” White responded when asked about the fight landing in Canada. Dos Santos and Lesnar will head out to Las Vegas in short order to begin work on the season which will feature an all welterweight class of hopefuls, before the two goliaths meet to determine the next challenger for the UFC heavyweight strap. AnthonyOTorres
Incoming WEC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis now has a potential opponent for his UFC debut. On a Tuesday media conference call to promote the UFC’s Jan. 22 “Fight for the Troops 2” event, UFC President Dana White confirmed that a matchup between Pettis and fan favorite Clay Guida is under consideration. “It’s not a done deal, but that’s the fight we’re talking about,” said White, who did not specify when or where the bout might take place. Heavy.com on Monday reported that the Pettis-Guida clash was being targeted for either UFC 130, which takes place May 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, or UFC 131, an event rumored to be held at Rogers Arena in Vancouver on June 11. After defeating Benson Henderson in a 25-minute classic at WEC 53 on Dec. 16, Pettis was crowned the final WEC 155-pound champ and guaranteed a crack at the winner of UFC champion Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard’s Jan. 1 rematch at UFC 125. After Edgar and Maynard fought to a five-round split draw and UFC brass announced that the pair would square off once again before Pettis’ title shot, “Showtime” and his team made it clear that the 23-year-old would not sit out as Edgar and Maynard complete their trilogy. Little known at the start of 2010, Pettis rose to prominence with four impressive victories in the past 12 months. The Duke Roufus-trained fighter became an overnight sensation when he landed a spectacular, off-the-cage kick against Henderson in the final minute of their title bout. Once viewed as the UFC’s premier l55-pound gatekeeper, Guida has surged into title contention with his last three outings. After submitting Shannon Gugerty and breaking the jaw of Rafael dos Anjos in 2010, “The Carpenter” began his new year with an impressive guillotine submission of former Pride lightweight champion Takanori Gomi at UFC 125. Guida holds an overall UFC record of 8-5 since entering the promotion in 2006.
john_gacy
How in the hell can a 20 year sentence be minimized to no jailtime at all and 2yrs probation? Cooperation? Snitching? The judge has a sentencing range so he does not have to give him a full 20? I can tell you that the sentence is really no surprise no matter how you look at it. Overall it was a wack-ass white collar crime, dude is no ponzi schemer.

AnthonyOTorres
USAToday.com has picked up on Kimbo Slice making his pro wrestling debut on February 5th for the IGF wrestling promotion in Japan. The story notes, "Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson has turned his back on competition entirely to embrace entertainment. The former backyard brawler-turned-mixed-martial-artist will perform Feb. 5 in Japan during a professional wrestling bout with ex-sumo wrestler Shinichi "Wakakirin" Suzukawa, the Inoki Genome Federation announced Tuesday. Ferguson previously expressed interest in boxing after the Ultimate Fighting Championship released him last year, but his enthusiasm has been lacking, promoter Jared Shaw told MMA Fighting

Akrisone
I miss andrie arlovski! N/h I remember one of the first mma events I ever watched he fought. I thought who the hell is this Wearwolf looking muuhfucka And clay guida had a major major set back when he lost to Sanchez and Huerta. That's why he never got his title shot, he's never been able to step up and elevate to the champion level. Every time he fights a top 3 contender he loses. Which sucks because clay is my favourite lightweight. Dudes a machine, and he uses his hair as weapon because it pisses people off haha. As far as his cardio it's bloody off the charts, I remember after he lost to sanchez in a split decision that was a fucking battle to the last second...the post fight interview clay is still jumping up and down in the interview like the fight hadn't even started yet. Check out his wiki photo hahaha dudes probably one of the nicest guys in mma
