anyone have advice for a workout to bulk up my traps?

Apparently 3 sets of 10 shrugs with 50lb dunbells aint cutting it

sigh...

are you only able to shrug 50lbs? try to up it by 10lbs if possible, with over 10 reps. i try to go for 15-20, while super-setting them with barbell upright rows, close grip. works for me lately.

Cheers love, I never think to look on reddit.

I do yes, well, I try to keep at it.

I haven't done much this week but last session was bicep curls, shoulder press and upright rows. Step up work on a box, dips, tricep overhead presses and core stuff with a medicine ball. Then I did some bag work for 20 minutes. I'm positive I'm making some glaring errors but it works for me.

Do squats and deadlifts along with whatever other rows and shit you are already doing.

They will make your guts strong as fuck.

Your ab definition comes from your diet not your exercise program.

Don't be scared of lifting heavy weights.

You won't turn into She-Hulk unless you juice.

Check out Stronglifts or any 5x5 program for a good beginner routine and if you what you see, give it a try.

It CAN NOT hurt to try it for a few months.

It will probably show you more results than anything anyone else ever showed you unless you have been training in some sport specific shit for years prior to now and are an athlete.

If you make muscle, your fat will begin to dissolve.

Doing what everybody else does will get the the results everybody else gets.

How many people do you know that have been running on treadmills and doing crunches for years on end and still look exactly the same?

You really do not need cardio if you keep your rest periods between sets short.

Or exchange cardio for sprint intervals.

These programs actually become kind of fun once you get to the point that you start making personal records.

After that it's just a game of besting yourself.

Then you are hooked on shitting excellence.

I'm not sure I want to be hooked!

I can do deadlifts, my back won't take it. I do sport specific stuff yeah, lots of stamina drills, plyos and muscle endurance but I only do it for fun now so I don't train that hard really. I know I need to do more strength work but it's haaaarrrrd dammit.

Your back can't take it because you are more than likely doing it improperly or too often.

Deadlifts fix backs.

Squats fix knees.

Don't be a wuss.

3-4 days a week is more than enough to transform your body if you have your diet in check.

All the stuff you are doing is good, but is it organized and progressive?

You need to add more resistance to everything you are doing in a timely manner to see results.

DON'T BE A WUSS, WOMAN!

Get lean and ornery and come drink in Mexico.

I do it properly and trust me I don't do it too often at all.

I'm far too lazy to have any kind of regime going that would transform my body and the only place I could go from where I'm at now is to ripped and I don't really want that. I REALLY hate squats but just for you I'll work more in.

I just like hitting people in the face maaaan.

My diet consists of tea and cake, that's good, right?

It's about as organised as I'll ever be, the guy I train with is a commonwealth medallist, I annoy the shit outta him by being lax and not really having any goals for myself. I'll definitely be taking on your advice though!

Getting drunk in Mexico is a regime I could stick to and I'm already a miserable git so I'm half way there.

I love face pulls.

They make my back feel nice.

I've never done hack squats.

Are they the ones that are like doing a deadlift with the bar behind you?

sorta? it's kinda hard for me to describe them other than there's a hack squat machine at my gym i use. i guess different angles/stances with squats are pretty crucial, which is why the hack squat kicked my ass the first time using it.

pretty much looks like this:
