Winter Storm Moves In, Causing Chain Requirements in Mountains

Feb 22, 2007 02:30 PM

Winter Storm Moves Into the Sierra

By noon, South Lake Tahoe had 9 inches of snow.

A winter storm is moving into Northern Nevada and the Sierra. Chains are mandatory for more than 50 miles on interstate 80 and more than 50 miles of U.S. 50. Parts of state routes 88 and 89 also have chain requirements. About 2 miles of S.R. 88 is closed for avalanche control. That's between just east of Silver Lake and Kirkwood. There is also a high wind advisory on 395 through Washoe Valley.

Snow also began falling on the valley floor, including parts of Reno, around 8:30 this morning.
