Compulsive spending

Tease's thread got me thinking:

You know those people who spend compulsively? They're ALWAYS in debt and always feel as though they need new electronics, clothes etc?

Its obviously a void right?

Do you think this void is because of a lack of passion in they're lives?

Let me further illustrate my point: (I'll use the passion for creativity as its something a lot of us can relate to)

You know that level of satisfaction you get when you hammer out a really awesome peice, draw a really great picture etc?

Do you think they get that same temporary satisfaction when they buy something new?

I definately practise retail therapy.

Also for me, I already save 1/3 of all my paycheques, and i dont really have bills other than cell phone/visas - so my attitude is "what the fuck do i want to do with the other 2/3 of my cheque?"

I usually spend it right away - and boy did i go nuts the last 2 weeks - SO MANY NEW CLOTHES.

and i agree with RumPuncher - sleep on it and if its haunting you. you want it

i tend to buy alot of shit if im out and about and have the spare cash instead of waiting it out, thinking about it and then considering that maybe its not worth it?

i also impulse buy fast food even if im 5mins from home.

I hear you on that

then get home and dinners on the table and goddamn it I gotta eat that too!

i buy shit one because i think i need it, or just want to have it, and it frusterates me when i cant have it...

but also, yes, its a momentary high, a feeling of, ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, i got this shit, and its mine.

however, due to my current state of affairs, i am learning, there is nothing wrong with buying a bunch of shit and having nice things, its just how you go about getting those things thats important.

credit cards arent the devil, but you need to use them wisely. there will always be sales. and materialistic shit will not make you happy.

on top of that, not having money to eat is about the worst thing ever, and makes me feel like a low life piece of shit.

and im starving as i type this.

i think the key to life is family. good family, a good wife, kids eventually, thats true happiness. the material items can help you enjoy life to an extent, but when it really comes down to it, people loving you, and the experiences you get out of life, i think thats what means the most...
