RumPuncher
how popular is football in canada? in toronto it's fucking insane. we had over a million people on the streets when italy won the cup. Plus an entirely different million people when greece won the euro.
Reuben Kinkaid
Toronto is a good choice to have a team. They'll sell out every game. Now we need one to come to Vancouver so I'm not forced to watch the Whitecaps or whatever the hell the team here is called.

H. Lecter
Beckham can;t even make his own nations starting team~ Even Figo turned down America, and that was for Saudi Arabia!! It's unlikely that he'll join MLS, but for his family, I hope it does, and for what it's worth, for MLS's sake as well.. Beckham paid his fare.. --------- Bolton

I've never understood why americans generally aren't interested in football(soccer football), because, in general, as a nation they're big on sport of all kinds. Blood Feast Island Man
america is too young as a country to have any real tradition.

Reuben Kinkaid
i think the u.s. and maybe canada is where soccer is the least popular. I read an article that said Canada, USA, and Finland are the only countries in the world that don't regard soccer as the number one sport (those Finns and their hockey). As for why Americans don't like it, I strongly reccomend reading How Soccer Explains the World by Franklin Foer, himself an American. It's a great read regardless of your knowledge or interest in the sport, and he has some great explanations as to why Americans and soccer don't mix (tradition, patriotism, the fear of European influence, etc.)
Reuben Kinkaid
i probably should have read the article. but who the hell cares about soccer? About 3.5 billion people, that's who.

Theo Huxtable.
btw, that map is somewhat misleading. although baseball is america's "national sport," NFL football is its most popular sport.
Reuben Kinkaid
I question the validity and accuracy of that map. Gaelic Football? Come on.
serum
About 3.5 billion people, that's who. yeah well alot of people like jesus, monster trucks, rodeos and pork rinds. i think id rather be a hooligan and throw shit than actually sit and watch a game. Abracadabra
I question the validity and accuracy of that map. Gaelic Football? Come on. football (soccer) is bigger than gaelic in ireland. rugby and aussie rules dominate australia. that map is definately wrong.
