home brew kits

decided to check out how cheap these things are.

surprised me.

*used the search function because i recall a thread on this very subject, but it did not appear.

one thing i like: 5 gallons of homebrew = 54 bottles of beer.

the cost: $100 for the kit and some ingredients

after the first batch of brew, you need more ingredients. obviously.

ales are the easiest to make. one should stay away from making lagers for the first few times they brew.

here are some sites:

Don't get any of that prepackaged nonsense...

Do it the real way, go to the brew supply store, get your buckets, your hops, your yeast, your grains...

Make sure you bring icepacks to the store, or else you can't keep the hops or yeast cold on the way home. Your first batch can taste good if you're not retarded. Mostly you just want to pay attention to the temperatures. That's the biggest deal.

Also don't forget that the flavor of your tap is going to effect the flavor of your beer. You can usually get a little report with what is in your tap water from the company, then you can go online and check to see if it's going to fuck up your beer too much.

And so on and so forth.
