serum Posted October 27, 2006 Share Posted October 27, 2006 don't freestyle it. yes its better to sketch and plan before painting. it will show in your final product. try to take the thinking out of the painting process. then at the wall you can focus on reproducing your idea. don't bring your blackbook, just photocopy the pages you need to use that night. its also a good idea to try out different color schemes with your photocopies until you get the desired effect you are going for. You say you suck with a pen and pencil. If this is the case you probably should leave the paint alone until you no longer suck with pen and pencil. Its not that hard... If your drawings suck I bet your walls suck 10 times more. After you sketch something you like.... Sketch it a bunch more times. If you had to erase at all then you need to draw it over and over and get it right. PEN IS A BETTER INDICATION OF YOUR PREPAREDNESS. DRAW WITH PEN dont bring your blackbook to a wall. Bring out a piece of paper if you decide to bring anything at all. 1) you dont want to lose it the blackbook 2) you dont want the police to catch you with it either. With this sketch... only look at it if you have to. If you find yourself copying something from paper to wall its going to take a long ass time and it probably wont turn out right. r3ader Posted October 27, 2006 Share Posted October 27, 2006 fuck sketching, fuck practice boards, just spray horrendous shit all over the place. that's graffiti! but seriously... sketch with pen, great advice. if you can't draw the shit tight, then keep working, because you still suck. then practice practice practice on a board until it looks so fly you can't stand it. and even if you always day time it, practice in the dark with no light at all (cheater) until you can do it with your eyes closed. that includes the fill in and the outline; or else you'll be hitting some public ass wall once you have balls and it'll be pitch black, you're using dark colors and have your outline 2 feet away from your fill. if you've practiced enough, you'll be able to do it blindfolded. oh, and on that topic, use a color you can see in the dark for your outlines. and again, it doesn't matter if you always do day time, you'll have a spot some day you gotta do at night, and you should be versatile.
