I am def not buying anymore nikes now that I know that 6 and 7 year old kids were not working the machines or sewing by hand. I liked the thought that young chinese boys and especially girls were losing arms and legs being stolen from their families to make my kicks. It made Nikes feel like they were exotic... Now...they are just like k swiss...

Those are promotional photos. As a person who works with Asian factories I can almost

garuantee you that there are 13 year old kids working in any of the " Nike factory networks", and even younger kids working at the tanneries that cut and dye their split leather.I guess that's better than being a prostitute or a farmer. A company like NIKE probably has very strict factory compliance. No one wants bad press. As far as salaries, those sewers are probably making $8 US a day + room and board ( a cot, some rice and vegetables ) , and that's a hi estimate. That's why I don't complain too much when the glue on the toe of my airmax's dissolves.

you guys are all retards

every shoe company makes shoes the same way

outsourced labour, thanks to free trade. Nikes just the only one who catches any heat

not just shoe companies. NIKE gets the heat because NIKE was one of the first to go

directly to S.E. ASIA. I don't think NIKE ever made shoes in the USA. The idea of

unrestricted free trade is interesting. Especially because the consumer doesn't really see the

savings. All this aside, I'm wearing custom AF2's while sitting infront of the computer payed for by

a HK factory that I'm currently designing for. GO GLOBAL or GO HOME!!! Cheap labor is the new black!

it's not slavery when you get room and board, as well as a paycheque

You make it sound like it's a walk in the park. Room and board for those factories are rooms about the size of a closet with bunkbeds, group showers/toilets, etc etc. Pay is less than half a US dollar, work weeks are generally at least 6 days a week and more hours than we're used to putting in. The major difference between this and slave labor is that these people aren't forced into it, they pick it because they'll make more money doing that than growing rice. It's more of a matter of the corporation grossly taking advantage of the situation than it is slave labour. These photos aren't exactly undercover, they're well-produced and planned and it's one tiny little room in a factory. They don't make all the Nike's in that one little factory.

I wear New Balance shoes, they're made in Boston and they cost half the price of a pair of Nike's and they last twice as long. I'm not sure if you're defending Nike but I can't see your justification for doing that, if you are.
