looking at these flicks brings back so many memories it makes me feel like crying. i'd trade all the fame and style in the world just to be a little kid again.

CHARLIE = amazing....unfortunatley, like a lot of great writers back then, i think he was born at the wrong time (i feel the same about SENT, WEST, DREAM and PRE) in the sense that if they did a QUARTER of their work now, people would ahil them as kings....and now stupid kids with 12 pieces get sweatted b/c of mags and the internet. just LOOK at this thread. the dude killed all of cali, repeatedly painted NYC and ATL. theres a fucking 98.7 KISS fm piece. jesus christ, this is some of the best graffiti ever done. if there was any justice in graffiti, this guy would get the respect he deserves....instead, 90% of todays writers spent more time debating over ANSIQ vs. ASIC. sad, but thats what we're laft with. oh well....im sure, like the seemingly large contingent of people that responded to this thread, those who know - KNOW. and those who dont, well, fuck em.

much agreed.

the first time i saw charlie , was 20/20 (i believe) in about 91. this was when sda was blowing up pittsburgh , and graffiti was a hot button topic. the images of him painting the la freeway (i dont remember which one , gimme a break it was 10 years ago.) were burned into my mind for years. its what influeneced me into the life of crime. i dont know how one person could have that much style , dedication and creativity. god bless charlie!:king:

Memories, sweet memories!!! You know when it is all said and done the only thing that matters is where you there and if not all you have are the photos to look at through web sites, mags, friends or foes!!! Most people don't have an IDEA of what old school is or even better, which generation did they belong to? Before us (Frame & Porn) there was one other generation in L.A. that included but not limited to the "L.A. Bomb Squad" with writers like "Crime, Shandu, Risko (RIP), Primo Dee, and Dave. Graff one and the Shake City Rockers, Crase, and a few others!!! These are some of the True Old School Pioneers in L.A. Why do I say it because I was there to see it and I got the fliks. One of the earliest battles was between Shandu and Graff One, at the Belmont Tunnel in L.A. and it was great. Where did I get influenced? "The Radio" then became the "RadioTron" was the only Hip Hop Club and youth center in L.A. that supported Graffiti and breaking. You want to get schooled, I'll help ya so when you comment on the old days, date yourself because Graffiti in L.A. didn't start in 1990!!! One other thing, just because you could pick up a spray can (tgo) doesn't make you a writer!!! Think about that.......................I am FRAMEONE DTKcrue, K2S & STN Los Angeles!!!

i agree with cheerleader about how those writers came at a time before mag fame and things, but man they got to be rocking in one of the best west coast era's that will ever happen. i would trade all this bullshit to have been there in LA during the early 1990's man the shit was hype as fuck. ( i went when i was 15 and took mad photos) tons of dope graff. things were really jumping off in the early 90's for graff and basic ruckus. i wouldnt gauge success on magazines. i mean look at CBS. can control was basically the CBS newsletter and now look at CBS (oh yeah, you cant look at cbs now cause it doesnt exist)

panic, poise, geso trm (la), sleeze, chaka, hex (LOD not the piecer),risk, charlie, sk8, awr was doing shit. also back in like 1990 cbs really was rocking then took a nosedive.

i have to say that the current LA writers adapted to thier environment. for better or for worse, times have changed and so has the graff. i still try to keep the classic style cause im down for it, but you cant expect everyone to.

good thread though. i love old LA so much.

Big Bad Aliso Pico projects represent!!!!!!!If any of you know what Im talking about then youre cool by me. Last time I saw that fool I was a kid, then they tore all of our buildings down. Damn, I remember my older cousins takin me to Radiotron, it was weird how they were all Gd up yet were into hip hop. Back before TMC became aneighborhood. That truly was some of the dopest westcoast flavors, influenced the shit out of me. Awe how nice life was before the tagbanger explosion.

Freeways killed, mad tags. it wasnt the new "twigs and razors" type shit that everyone attributes to LA now.

yeah! for the early 1990's LA....

sixteen

Hell yeah...always good to see old LA getting the respect it deserves. Too many people these days have this idea that just cause something came later, it must be better or more "evolved"...but the truth is none of these newjacks are rocking shit with that kind of skill or quantity anymore. Its nice to see I'm not the only one that hates having LA be known just for that nasty looking skinny prickly shit too. Anyone who still rocks "classic" style shit gets love from me... :)
