Blood Feast Island Man
customs as in airport customs, not "we always tip" customs. are you allowed to bring handluggage onto american airlines flights? I rang them, they gave me a very ambiguous answer allong the lines of "it's allowed, but sometimes it's not." and of course after that I've got the joy that is waiting for 2 hours+ at JFK in the que to get my iris scanned. ho hum. After School Special
You can bring bags on the plane, I'm just not sure how many (1?2?) The only real difference is that now you can't bring liquids (shampoo, water, cologne) It's whatever, I flew during that scare with the liquid explosive plot, and still made it onto the plane with my lighter and assorted goodies I picked up in Cali. Security is a joke. Not a funny joke. But a joke regardless.
transparent
most airlines only let you bring one carryon...as far as the "it's allowed, but sometimes its not" thing see above post on security....
RumPuncher
most airlines are relaxing on the gel/liquid thing. what was pure bullshit was when they wouldn't let you have iPods or Books. If someone if can hijack a plane with the new Harry Potter, then I say let 'em have it.

Abracadabra
bfim, you're coming from the uk, correct? i believe you're not allowed any hand luggage at all from the uk. if you are travelling to the states from other parts of the world you are allowed to have hand luggage, just no liquids. *edit - here's the official word from US customs: Carry-on baggage restrictions for flights from the U.K. Each passenger is permitted to carry one item of cabin baggage through the airport security checkpoint. The dimensions of the item must not exceed a maximum length of 56 cm long, 45 cm wide and 25 cm deep (22.4" x 17.7" x 9.8"). This includes wheels, handles, side pockets, etc. Other bags, such as handbags, may be carried within the single item of cabin baggage. All items carried by passengers will be screened by x-ray. Exception to the one bag limit: Musical instruments that do not fit in one carry-on bag must be in a case, and meet the carry-on size requirements Liquids, gels and/or aerosols purchased in the secure area may be carried on board the aircraft. This includes duty free items. These items are not permitted to be carried through the security checkpoint. Exceptions include: Baby milk and liquid baby food (the contents of each bottle or jar must be tasted by the accompanying passenger) Essential medicines in liquid form sufficient and essential for the flight (e.g., diabetic kit) will be verified as authentic Solid lipstick To help progress through security checkpoints, travelers are encouraged not to include items capable of containing liquids (for example, bottles, flasks, tubes, cans or plastic containers). Pushchairs, walking aids and wheelchairs are permitted, but will be screened and searched. Connecting flights within the U.S. Duty free liquids, gels and/or aerosols are not accepted on connecting flights within the U.S, unless they meet U.S. domestic carry-on criteria. !@#$%
from the UK no hand stuff i think. hand stuff alllowed in the US but ONLY ONE (some friends who have flown recently say they got crazy about this, and the size is smaller than it used to be., no more of those rolling pieces of luggage that go into overheads.) no liquids still. but i think less than 3oz of shampoo is ok. SUR X3
As far as I remember it, BFIM is going to Brazil or something. Most airlines are letting you have liquids and stuff like that again. You're just going to have to figure it out when you get to the airport. When you are at baggage checkin, make sure that you are allowed to have whatever carry on you want. If not then check it there, the last thing you want is for them to check it at the gate, you can almost be positive you will never see that bag again. Schnitzel
yeah the day I flew from NYC to London was the day the whole thing blew up so to speak. when we were boarding we thought we'd get there early as it was looking a bit chaotic. We were allowed to carry our wallets and and our tickets in a ziplock bag and that was it. because i ddin't have a prescription for my asthma spray i had to ditch it. then for seven hours we were stuck between security and the plane we weren't allowed into shops- no food vendors would sell us anything unless it was in glasses so thankfully I had beer but there was nowhere to get more cash out! But then when it got time to get on the plane the regulations had obviously relaxed as there were people bringing books and sweaters and stuff in their bags. fucking american airprort security assholes I spent the entire trip wheezing due to the aircon without a book to read whilst tow rows back a guy is there reading his book. Plus side of it you get on and off the plane in five minutes without carry on luggage!
