actually i think that is seen throwing up sane if you read the textbook flick sane throws up UA which would make perfect sense of the sane having seen's S N and E.

No it is SANE UA not SANE SMITH, he was one of the many SEEN spawn in the Throggs Neck area. I know because I pained with him in many an occasion...

yes, his letters and style were all SEEN influenced..

Smith / Sane

If you are down with graffiti you know the Smith / Sane name. Smith and Sane are brothers - unfortunately Sane died during the 80's. Although Sane is no longer with us, his brother Smith is keeping his name alive - and well. During the time when the city trains were bombed, people used to literally come from Europe just to see Smith/Sane freights!

95% of Smith's work is illegal. From what I've been told, he knows the subway tunnels like no other writer. If you ever go into any subway tunnel in NYC, odds are you will find his name there. Smith is truly a King in every meaning of the word. And in my book he is one of the illest bombers of all time!

What about AW thats how I always remember SANE SMITH, also Sane died early ninties. And the way I remember them besides the house paint. on the 1 rr b 7 trains.was the highways..in I would say 86-87 they had all the highways..SANE SMITH..SMITH SANE.. and the tracks..and any hatch there was always a SANE SMITH TAG..

You would be in the most abandonded spot..and there would be a Sane Smith tag..

Truly one of the most overlooked, and underated writers..much respect... and Sane rip..

WOW! havent heard Acid Writers since the first time i met sane and Ja at treamont. and this is too how i related to the Two of them "SANESMITH AW!" this was like1987. and everything this guy said about the smith sane institution is right and exact. i might add that there was a period in the later 80s that these two had a tag in every station in the system. this duo personified and epitomised the term writing. if our culture ever gets in the dictionary there should a flik of their handy work to illustrate the definition.

Thanks for all the support and the memories. Being Old and Grumpy ya sometimes lose focus or correct spelling. Yeah there was a bunch of Sanes when we first started in '84, Sane KD + Sane SIC also, but only one will always be remembered as SaneSmith. You can catch more modern work (and lord knows much better quality since the 80's) at pinksmith.com or rest your feet at your local freight bench. Just remember..... when you meet your maker what will you tell him you did with your life....... WHOLECARS!
