misteraven
i dont know how to contribute to wikipedia, nor do i have the inclination to participate considering how un-objective my opinion would be, but i am willing to share history and details for those that have any interest in the subject or interest in pursuing this matter. fact is the information on there is largely incorrect. 12ozprophet was a magazine first, and then became a community later. both components have been referenced as sources in critical works, since both have contributed in significant ways to popular culture. the most obvious example being the fact that we broke the story of os gemeos in issue 6 of 12ozprophet magazine, and have since grown to become increasingly significant figures in the art world, as well as collaborators in major commercial projects including nike's recent jinga campaign for the fifa world cup 2006. as far as 12oz being the biggest graffiti site, i'm not sure if thats true since i have no credible information on any other sites, but i can say with confidence that we are among the longest running active graffiti communities online, and without question the largest graffiti-centric community currently online. we're managing in excess of 20 million hits a month by over 55,000 members at last count, and growth has remained exponential almost since day one. whether i like it or not, this community is big enough to indeed impact the graffiti sub-culture for better or worse, and in conjunction with our publishing efforts via Also Known As are certainly at the forefront of at least helping define the direction it moves in. regardless of what the people that contribute to wikipedia have to say, 12ozprophet is entrenched in popular culture, and has remained a household name in graffiti for the better part of the last decade. the reason for all this goes back to the essence of what this is: community. its simple fact that the community on 12oz has grown to become large enough to represent a vary hefty cross section of the entire graffiti world, and as such, has a major impact on it. if anyone has any specific questions, feel free to ask. i'm sure myself, struggle inc, psm, sonik, joker, and many others who were a part of it's earliest history can answer most of them. misteraven
on a side note, i'd love to know where the 1.5 billion comes from. further, i'd love to know how alexa claims to have a clue as to what numbers were pulling in (especially when shit is so far off)... http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.12ozprophet.com%2F

Smart
This isn't graf, it's poor form to write a glowing review of your own work... and if you're posting here then, this is your own work. I liked the article, got a chuckle from the Tease: Banned line. Somebody needs to get a screenshot of the top of the page w/ the web addy visible. Then we'll sell the article in The Yard and Third Rail to those kids that want to do their term papers of 'Grafff'. They can use Wiki as a source (like that one kid in Crossfire). LIVERWURST*
I don't think a graffiti forum needs to try to generate legitamacy or attention outside of itself. Though it's been done, it always seemed to end badly when writers invite reporters down to walls and open up for interviews - and that is what this seems like - becasue it is never understood by the common reader and often blows spots. In this case it's not like 12oz isn't known by every police force in the country, but to actually go out and promote it seems like the wrong direction to take... Guest spectr
i hope the article gets deleted. it's poorly written and offers little to no history of where the site came from. and they are right in saying that it shouldn't be there. there is no evidence presented in the article to show that anyone outside of 12oz has acknowledged it's existence/relevane/importance. putting an article on wiki is more than just writing a few paragraphs about inside jokes i wish i could give you props for that but i already gave you props... though i wouldn't say that its poorly written. misteraven
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:WEB Wikipedia:Notability (web) Criteria for web content Web-specific content[3] is notable if it meets any one of the following criteria: 1. The content itself has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent of the site itself. This criterion includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper and magazine articles, books, television documentaries, and published reports by consumer watchdog organizations.[4] except for the following: Media re-prints of press releases and advertising for the content or site.[5] Trivial coverage, such as newspaper articles that simply report the internet address, the times at which such content is updated or made available, a brief summary of the nature of the content or the publication of internet addresses and site or content descriptions in internet directories or online stores. 2. The website or content has won a well known and independent award, either from a publication or organisation.[6] 3. The content is distributed via a site which is both well known and independent of the creators, either through an online newspaper or magazine, an online publisher, or an online broadcaster.[7] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- too lazy to dig further, but here's the ones i'm aware of from the last 18 months only.
