Then they start listening to music that my 13 year old sister listens so they can feel as 'optimistic' and 'with it' as they did when they were a kid. But deep down they know the shameful truth: That really it's just a feeble ass attempt to remedy a well-repressed quarter-life crisis. They also know that something as trivial as a music selection could never help anyone feel as positive as they did before the world kicked their ass a little. But I did meet them recently, and they were much less douchebaggy than I expected. Fallout Boy, on the other hand, rate pretty high on the douchebag scale.
