MINNEAPOLIS:

Quang's for vietnamese

I'll add to this:

Indian:

Marla's Indian & Carribean Cuisine (Uptown)

Thai:

True Thai (Seward), Ketsana's (Richfield). I'm slightly partial to Sawatdee.

Vietnamese:

Pho Tau Bay (Nicollet, a block or two north of Quang), Mai Village (Midway/St. Paul). Quang is by far the best spot in town.

Malaysian:

Peninsula (Nicollet)

African:

The Blue Nile (Seward)

South American:

Machu Picchu (Uptown)

Others:

Chicago Deli (So. Mpls) - Mediterranean, Greek

Matt's Bar (Midtown) - juicy lucy - cheese in the middle of the beef patty.

Chatterbox Pub (Midtown) - gourmet...everything.

if you're talking about hot dogs in chicago, I recommend Hot Doug's. You have to wait in line about 20 minutes to get inside around lunchtime, but I think it's worth it. All kinds of exotic meats made into gourmet hot dogs, and really not that expensive. I got buffalo dog with chipotle ale sauce, bangin. You can get regular fries or fries cooked in duck fat for a little extra, but i'd say just get the regular ones.

Chicago natives may begin disagreeing now.

  • 2 weeks later...

it's funny, while i was on my way home from lunch today (just Subway, nothing to write home about), i thought about making a thread exactly like this, but more focused on vegetarian/vegan places. but i don't know how many heads on here are veg, so i left the thought alone.

if anyone wants dc/va veggie restaurants, let me know.

Brisbane, Australia.

Ric's/Fatboy's (Fortitude Valley): Cheap ass bacon and eggs breakfast, good coffee...

Govinda's (City centre, opposite queen street mall): at lunchtime you can get a rad $6 meal of vegetarian indian cuisine. they are also open on friday nights for dinner but they do hare krishna chanting and stuff, makes you feel awkward if you aren't hare krishna.
