If you went to see "Hitchhiker's Guide..." expecting a faithful adaptation, you would have been disappointed...but, there's no way. Douglas Adams wrote some stories that somehow made me feel stoned, even when I was sober. I felt like that through most of one of the Dirk Gently books, and thinking, "He was either high when he wrote this, or writing about being high." Now that I think of it, indirectly he was writing about someone being high...it was the book that kept quoting Coleridge. "Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul"...yeah, that's it. The movie didn't have that quality, but it turned out pretty well. I saw the old BBC show about a month before, and I thought it was good, but really cheesy...like "Doctor Who", but funnier.
