i read these this morning... enjoy.

suggestions for the 4th of july:

Hire anyone you believe is qualified to do the job. Do not check for credentials, do not pay social security/medicare and for the sake of all that is good, do not withhold money from their paycheck. Better yet, pay cash.

Buy gold or silver. What better way to secure your dollars from the decaying hands of the Federal Reserve than by buying historically sound money?

Sell hot dogs and lemonade to your neighbors, or have a garage sale. Do not obtain a license and do not pay sales tax. Make it as simple as possible and enjoy totally free transactions between friends and family, as it should be. Teach the kids the value of work, money and freedom.

Obtain fireworks and set them off. If your state government believes (oh, the horror) that you are better off not having them, find some anyway through an intermediary or just drive to the state border

Buy a gun from someone not behind a counter. Then keep it on you.

(Try to) travel without an ID. This great victimless crime is a prime example of the State’s desire to control everything and everyone. Conform or be jailed.

Deliver first class mail around your block. Make it a fun walk and bring your kids. Yes, this is a bit silly, but the Feds have monopolized the delivery of first class mail in the country. Spooner had a nice go at it but he was shut down. Do not ever try to do evil things such as deliver mail, for the government hates competition.

Install and use software with strong encryption and enjoy secretive email and instant messaging. Sure, there could be ways of cracking the code and revealing the messages but it’s the thought that matters.

Drive without your license while talking on your cell phone without wearing your seatbelt or helmet.

Start a home improvement project: build a pool, a new room, a bigger garage. It’s your house and land right? You do not need permission from your local tyrant or council or any of their thugs and beasts to use your own property or add to it.

All these activities will provide not only hours of healthy entertainment but relaxes the mind and temporarily frees the spirit from the toxic background radiation of the government. Happy 4th of July.

Yes, and be sure to mention to your employee that this set-up offers them absolutely NO protection in the areas of job discrimination, wages, loss of work or injury and that dodging taxes can actually cost a lot IF you get caught.

Buy gold or silver. What better way to secure your dollars from the decaying hands of the Federal Reserve than by buying historically sound money?

Because I had a hard time converting gold into products last time I was at the grocery store. Turns out that they aren't set up for smelting OR basic metallurgical testing for purity!

Sell hot dogs and lemonade to your neighbors, or have a garage sale. Do not obtain a license and do not pay sales tax. Make it as simple as possible and enjoy totally free transactions between friends and family, as it should be. Teach the kids the value of work, money and freedom.

Yes, teach your children trades that are only respectable when performed by someone under 6 and over 60. Though piling you junk on your lawn and encouraging strangers to buy it for small change is a time honored tradition, it is by no means a career path.

Obtain fireworks and set them off. If your state government believes (oh, the horror) that you are better off not having them, find some anyway through an intermediary or just drive to the state border

Do what you want, don't hurt anyone and DON'T start any fires.

Buy a gun from someone not behind a counter. Then keep it on you.

Yeah, then if anything happens you can disclaim ownership and throw the shit on the dude that was cool enough to sell you the gun in the first place !

(Try to) travel without an ID. This great victimless crime is a prime example of the State’s desire to control everything and everyone. Conform or be jailed.

Whatever... carry fingernail clippers with you to heighten the risk.

Well, the USPS isn't technically the 'government' anymore and I'd say UPS and Fed-Ex are pretty first class but, they don't sell stamps...

Install and use software with strong encryption and enjoy secretive email and instant messaging. Sure, there could be ways of cracking the code and revealing the messages but it’s the thought that matters.

Not against the law, not a bad idea...

Drive without your license while talking on your cell phone without wearing your seatbelt or helmet.

Riiight, my... um, driving helmet.

Start a home improvement project: build a pool, a new room, a bigger garage. It’s your house and land right? You do not need permission from your local tyrant or council or any of their thugs and beasts to use your own property or add to it.

Ok, but I don't think the mayor or city council are actually in charge of any construction crews I may employ... but, whatever, historically, the fines for after the fact discoveries of property modification (assuming you actually made the changes up to code) are less of a hassle than the application process. Do what ya like.

All these activities will provide not only hours of healthy entertainment but relaxes the mind and temporarily frees the spirit from the toxic background radiation of the government. Happy 4th of July.

or smoke weed... Happy 4th!

the fourth of July is just another excuse for the disbeleiving people to get twisted and forget about the inevitable meeting with their Lord, The most high.

btw...swedish....what do you mean by that statement "what are you ,black?"

that rated pretty high on the "im an idiot meter".

call me crazy but, I work hard for my money and burning it up in the sky is not high on my spending priorities. Not to mention that I really don't feel much of a connection nor do I have much in common with the people who started this holiday or the people who celebrate it.

But that's just me.

Happy Secession Day

by Thomas J. DiLorenzo

Perhaps the best evidence of how American history was rewritten, Soviet style, in the post-1865 era is the fact that most Americans seem to be unaware that "Independence Day" was originally intended to be a celebration of the colonists’ secession from the British empire. Indeed, the word secession is not even a part of the vocabulary of most Americans, who more often than not confuse it with "succession." The Revolutionary War was America’s first war of secession.

America’s most prominent secessionist, Thomas Jefferson, the author of the Declaration, was very clear about what he was saying: Governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, and whenever that consent is withdrawn, it is the right of the people to "alter or abolish" that government and "to institute a new government." The word "secession" was not a part of the American language at that time, so Jefferson used the word "separation" instead to describe the intentions of the American colonial secessionists.

The Declaration is also a states’ rights document (not surprisingly, since Jefferson was the intellectual inspiration for the American states’ rights political tradition). This, too, is foreign to most Americans. But read the final paragraph of the Declaration which states:

That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, FREE AND INDEPENDENT STATES; that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British crown and that all political connection between them and the state of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved; and that, as free and independent states, they have full power to levy war, conclude peace, contract alliances, establish commerce, and do all other things which independent states may of right do (emphasis in original).

Each colony was considered to be a free and independent state, or nation, in and of itself. There was no such thing as "the United States of America" in the minds of the founders. The independent colonies were simply united for a particular cause: seceding from the British empire. Each individual state was assumed to possess all the rights that any state possesses, even to wage war and conclude peace. Indeed, when King George III finally signed a peace treaty he signed it with all the individual American states, named one by one, and not something called "The United States of America." The "United States" as a consolidated, monopolistic government is a fiction invented by Lincoln and instituted as a matter of policy at gunpoint and at the expense of some 600,000 American lives during 1861–1865.

Jefferson defended the right of secession in his first inaugural address by declaring, "If there be any among us who would wish to dissolve this Union or to change its republican form, let them stand undisturbed as monuments of the safety with which error of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left to combat it." (In sharp contrast, in his first inaugural address, Lincoln promised an "invasion" with massive "bloodshed" (his words) of any state that failed to collect the newly-doubled federal tariff rate by seceding from the union).

Jefferson made numerous statements in defense of the defining principal of the American Revolution: the right of secession. In a January 29, 1804 letter to Dr. Joseph Priestly he wrote:

Whether we remain in one confederacy, or form into Atlantic and Mississippi confederacies, I believe not very important to the happiness of either part. Those of the western confederacy will be as much our children & descendants as those of the eastern, and I feel myself as much identified with that country, in future time, as with this; and did I now foresee a separation [i.e., secession] at some future day, yet I should feel the duty & the desire to promote the western interests as zealously as the eastern, doing all the good for both portions of our future family which should fall within my power.

In an August 12, 1803 letter to John C. Breckinridge Jefferson addressed the same issue, in light of the New England Federalists’ secession movement in response to his Louisiana Purchase. If there were a "separation" into two confederacies, he wrote, "God bless them both, & keep them in the union if it be for their good, but separate them, if it be better."

So on July 4 stoke up the grill, enjoy your barbecue, and drink a toast to Mr. Jefferson and his fellow secessionists. (And beware of any Straussian nonsense about how it was really Lincoln, the greatest enemy of states’ rights, including the right of secession, who taught us to "revere" the Declaration of Independence. Nothing could be further from the truth.)

A New Declaration

by Ron Paul

On the fourth day of July, in 1776, a small group of men, representing 13 colonies in the far-off Americas, boldly told the most powerful nation on earth that they were free.

They declared, in terms that still are radical today, that all men are created equal, and endowed with certain inalienable rights that government neither grants nor can take away.

In the Declaration of Independence, the founding fathers sought to demonstrate to the world that they were rejecting a tyrannical king. They listed the “injuries and usurpations” that contain the philosophical basis for our Constitution and Bill of Rights.

One point of consternation to our founding fathers was that the king had been “imposing Taxes on us without our Consent.” But 230 years later, taxation with representation has not worked out much better.

Indeed, one has to wonder how Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin would react to the current state of affairs. After all, they were outraged by mere import tariffs of a few pennies on the dollar. Today, the average American pays roughly 50 percent of their income in direct and indirect taxes.

In fact, most Texans will not start working for themselves for another week. Texans, like most Americans, work from January until early July just to pay their federal income taxes, state and local taxes, and the enormous costs of regulation. Only about half the year is spent working to pay for food, clothing, shelter, or education.

It is easy to simply blame faceless bureaucrats and politicians for our current state of affairs, and they do bear much of the blame. But blame also rests with those who expect Washington DC to solve every problem under the sun. If the public demanded that Congress abide by the Constitution and pass only constitutional spending bills, politicians would have no choice but to respond.

Everybody seems to agree that government waste is rampant and spending should but cut – but not when it comes to their communities or pet projects. So members of Congress have every incentive to support spending bills and adopt a go-along, get-along attitude. This leads to the famous compromises, but the bill eventually comes due on April 15th.

Our basic problem is that we have lost sight of the simple premise that guided the actions of our founding fathers. That premise? The government that governs least is the government that governs best.

When we cut the size of government, our taxes will fall. When we reduce the power of the federal bureaucracy, the cost of government will plummet. And when we firmly fix our eyes, undistracted, on the principles of liberty, Americans truly will be free. That should be our new declaration.

^ i'll buy that this guy is sincere about smaller government and true freedom when he supports ending the drug war, ending the war on terror (or at the very least guantanamo), is ok with legalized abortion and supports civil unions as an alternative to a ban on gay marriage.

I also think we witnessed him engaged in 'folly' with his last post. Some muslims are stricter than others... but you'll also noticed in his first post where he said he didn't celebrate the fourth for pretty ambivalent reasons. None of it was a real condemnation or representation of deep anger but still he chose not to celebrate.
