Guest R@ndomH3ro
yeah catholic church got weird on me. i was getting my son baptised and the preist kinda snapped at me when i asked a question about when it was our time to go up in front of the church. he was like "YOU DONT COME TO CHURCH OR WHAT? YOU DONT KNOW WHEN THE HOMILY IS?!" i looked at my sister like what the fuck? Catholism does have its faults, I was raised strict Catholic (How strict you say? So strict my sister was approched by Opus Dei to join.) I questioned a lot, but I also researched a lot. I am a free thinker. I do believe in God and Jesus, but I believe that religion and faith is a road you must travel and discover by yourself.

Guest nutsonmychin!
religion is good because of the stories, the lessons. but when you tell half truths the lessons are lost. i am super interested in anything, fact or fiction that forces ppl to leave their comfort zone, and things like this movie, Michael Moore (who I think its a douch bag face), can cause people to think more. and thats exciting. i think. !@#$%
damn dee. that would never even enter that priests mind. how sad to be so regimented religion is not good., we have stories with messages regardless, they are called fables or parables, sometimes even myths.. eh, just my two cents, and i'll never let em go, religion is evil and made for control dawood might be converting me though slowly but surely. ha. MAR
Our current bible is mainly based on what the Nicene Creed, the first Ecumenical Council, decided to include. I beleive metronome is correct, there are in total some 88 books of gospel. The four in the new testament supposedly represent the cross, the four directions. * and also what symbols said. ammendments to religous text is not new. There is the apocripha (sp:o ). Weapon X
Yeah there is actually a gospel by Mary Magdelene which of course has been suppressed by the church (recently discovered gospel of Judas as well... interesting.) Yeah, dude, the last issue of NatGeo has an article on the discovery of the Judas Gospel, and how it traded a bunch of unsavory hands in the antiquing world, destroying a lot of it. Check it out, dude. The one with the polar bear on the cover.
villain
I'm not exactly sure on all the details. Basically what I'm talking about is when the Romans officially adopted Christianity for political reasons in an era known as the Church of Pergamum, which I think is the ancestor of the modern day Catholic Church, the oldest official form of christianity. However, my point is that many unrecognized Gnostic groups descend directly from the apostles (such as the Desert Fathers) instead of the very same Roman Empire which killed Jesus, only later to adopt his teaching for political advantage, which is the Catholic church and it's many branches and divergences and spin offs. Basically modern christianity as we know it... What I'm trying to say is that Gnosis is older and closer to the truth. Many times throughout the ages gnostics have protected sacred texts when the powers that be went on a rampage to destroy any form of knowledge that did not suit their current political goals. You can thank gnostics for many of the advances of western civilization as well as preserving much of our history. So yes, the Bible has changed many times since the Nicene Creed, but it's essence has remained largely the same since that first official version of Christianity. I read the apocrypha as well as the Book of Enoch, which is supposedly the oldest biblical text. Very interesting to say the least.

That's exactly the sort of thing I was talking about, how pieces of the puzzle are pushed underground in order to create a different picture that suits certain interests. I'm glad this has finally come to light. Judas must have been particularly tortured. I believe he eventually hung himself.
villain
When I was refering to the Nicene Creed I didn't mean the actual creed itself but the council that met and determined what texts would or would not be included in the bible. I should have said the Council at Nicene. err... Nicea... I'm trying to draw this information out of my foggy mind...
Spazzy
I'm lookin' forward to this movie, too. The book was great... I love the theory of how Christ had a kid. Who knows? SUR X3
I saw it. The book is an interesting and fun read, read it in a day actually. One of the few popular books that were actually worth reading. The movie was a dumbed down version, watered down, with almost none of the stick it to religious xenophobes I liked about the book. Tom Hanks and the french chick had like, no chemistry on screen, I have more interest in the girls I watch in porn then they did. All the really fun parts of the book were either cut out or revised. I understand that you can't do direct translations from books to movies, this I get. I more than likely would of thought the movie was better if I didn't read the book. But fuck it, they made Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, my FAVORITE series of books into an AWESOME movie, hardley dumbed down at all. It strayed from the books but in a really good way. I was hoping Ron Howard, who I think is awesome, would do a good job with this book. But I don't think he did that great. Grits gives it a C+ because I got to talk shit to the Catholic bible thumpers outside picketing, all 6 of them. Holler....
Jerm4
Like Carlin, I always thought of church as a place to show off your best clothing. not to sound like a doosh, but seriously, i cant tell you how many times ive heard, "thats a good dress for church," or "iron your shirt for church, goddamnit!" Religion is all very spooky to me.

26SidedCube
[offtopic] Seriously guys, we're going to figure out the will and nature of the omnipotent 'being' responsible for creating everything from your appendix to the derbis floating freely through the furthest reaches of the galaxy any day now. All we have to do is keep studying texts written before people even questioned whether or not the world was flat; that's the key. Stay tuned: all of the answers to the unfathomable questions that have burdened the lives of mortal men men for centuries are coming. Just have faith...
