This has been pissing me off for a while now!

SERIOUSLY Mr Brainwash, 20 YEARS TOO LATE MATE!

found at merda´s blog

Man I remember reading some shit like Juxtapoz (of course) doing some giant article on "Mr BRAINWASH!!!" and hyping it up all like he was around forever. I thought to myself, I must be behind... who is this fuck? And as much as I tried to say, ok, it's in a magazine, there's something worthwhile here, I just couldn't make it happen. All I could think was...more of thiissss? Dude is almost more of a rip-off artist than Shepard Fairey. At any rate, when Exit throught the Giftshop came out, I was thouroughly satisfied with my initial pupu'ing of Mr. Brainwash. Ah, anyway, good post.

The German Letter.

Above. A Letter to Duel (Australia) from Cemnoz (Scum FBI Crew) (Germany) 1989.

OK, set your mind back to 1988, before computers, no internet and the most common communication method was via mail. I was doing this, Delta was doing this, Daim hadn’t started writing yet and Duel was sending letters to Scum with a lot of what was going on in Melbourne at the time. Now with all of that info you should get the answer to the question in the letter…

the only reason i think this thread is because of stupid shit that people post in it. a lot of post made by people talking out of their asses. calling people biters when they are practicing a regional or traditional style or some styles that have been passed from one writer to another. i think some of you kids need to do your homework before you try pointing the finger at someone and calling them a biter. yes i do acknowledge that biting has become a far too common occurrence in graffiti at this time. and i myself frown upon anyone who doesn't take the time to create something of their own, but instead stands on the shoulders of others that have put in the work and deserve respect for what is rightfully their own. but biting has given us some of things we have today that we didn't have just a few years ago, and has been happening since the beginning of graff. do you honestly think that well respected and known writers have not bitten something from Subway Art or Style Wars? If so you are just plaining naive. Every time Dondi painted a Bode character would you call him a biter? And for every writer that has a bubble letter throw is biting Comet. So think and maybe check before you come in this thread, and pointing your finger at people, and call them biters. my 2 cents

The past will criticize the moment, the future will laugh at it... it is only the moment that truly knows what to say of the moment.... they may copy my style but they can never get at your imagination.... this is a highly organized RAM society... Repeat After Me learning turns more individuals into ignorance lovers as opposed to ignorance haters.... The first artist who knew anything, truly of worth, knew that if the art continued, the oncoming wave of art would almost be sense-shattering.... They act like they don't bite, but from the wee age of no accumulative knowledge they've been forced fed a daily dose of A-Z and 0-9.... The worst of all ants one can come across are ignorants....

thats the point of a "duscussion board" if someone posts something you dont agree with, debate it. There's idiots in every thread homey, what makes you think this one would be any different?

I'll tell you one thing, this thread is well needed. "Regional influence" is not particularly biting, most times things are done out of one person inspired by something. But a straight swagger jack of a letter, or a 6 combo color scheme, or someone's somethin' they created or are known for is unaccepptable unless their older brother taught them how to write, and passed off a style to learn. Or if youre in a crew where a style came from and youre carrying a torch.... there are exceptions that intelligent writers already know and understand. It's the uneducated who chomp and expect praise like they spent the time and legwork it takes to stumble onto a new idea and see it's potential and have the balls to bring it to the forefront to be noticed as fresh.... I see too many people sit back and wait for their favorite writer to do something, validate it as "cool" then a week later they do it.....

CHEERS TO THAT TWONPOO.

MY RANT:

BITING IS TAKING FROM ANOTHER WRITER.

NOT BEING THE FIRST TO TAKE AN OUTSIDE INFLUENCE AND BRING IT INTO GRAFF.

ANYBODY USING A POPULAR LOGO FOR A LETTER IS NOT BITING.

*ANYBODY COPYING THAT EXACT "GRAFFITI-ACTION" IS A BITER.

TRIBUTES ARE NOT BITING.

USING THE SAME "ACCESSORY" ADD-ONS OR LETTERING WHITHIN ONES CREW IS ACCEPTED BITING.

I CONSIDER BITING ,

SOMETHING THAT A WRITER IGNORANTLY THINKS PEOPLE WON'T NOTICE AND HE'LL GET A PASS ON "STAYING-UP" WITH THE TIMES AND TRENDS.

AND/OR

A COMPLETE TREND FOLLOWING SHEEP THAT HAS NO TALENT/AMBITION FOR "EARNED" RESPECT.

QUOTING MY POST IS NOT BITING.

THOUGHT ALL THIS WAS COMMON SENSE.
